Dalias pov
A few weeks later
"Hey, Dalia? Can you go sort these please?" I look up from the computer at the front desk to my manager, Lisa, and smile. "Yeah of course. Will you cover me?" She nodded and we swapped places.
I began to push the creaky old cart through the isles of books and hum quietly to myself. Work wasn't too bad today, but I was still ready to go home.
As i was putting two books away, I heard someone turn down the isle. "Dalia."
I jumped slightly and turned to see miles in his signature suit even though it was a blazing 90 degrees outside.
"Oh, hey Miles." I smiled slightly and held the two books to my chest, turning my attention away from my work.
"It's been a while." I nodded and rocked back on my heels a few times. "You never told me how we could stay in touch."
I laughed and then turned back to the bookshelf, putting the two books away. "Well i couldn't make it easy for you now could i."
I heard him chuckle and step a little closer, "I can't be gone for long, i just wanted to step in and ask you to dinner again."
Turning my head quickly to him, my eyes widened. "You want to go to dinner again?"
He nodded, his face serious, "oh, um."
I hadent went on dates in a while. I wasent an open person, mainly just keeping to myself and Amelia.
Being asked on a second date gave me a rush. This man, this business man wanted to go on another date with me.
I was shocked, obviously. We had only met once prior to this encounter. The only words i could say were:
"Are you going to kidnap me?"
His face turned from serious to humorous- laughing and throwing his head back like the night we had met. "No. I just enjoy spending time with you."
"that's exactly what a kidnapper would say."
I push the cart around him, further down the hallway with him following close behind me. "I'm sorry if i gave that impression. I would just really like to get to know you more."
I sigh and turn around, locking eyes with miles as he stopped suddenly in his tracks. "fine. I get off at six. you can pick me up then."
He smiled slightly before stuffing his hands in his pockets, "alright. i'll see you then Ms. Glass."
*******
He was right on time.
As soon as i walked out the back room I saw him waiting outside the bookstores doors on the phone. With my coat in hand I walk out, smiling slightly and trying to not disturb his phone call. However as soon as he sees me he says "We'll finish this later" and hangs up.
"I didn't mean to cut off your phone call..." He shook his head and shrugged his shoulders, "Eh, it was giving me a headache anyways."
"Bad day at work?" He looked around before humming and then placing his hand on my lower back, "yeah. anyways i'll have my driver take us to dinner."
He begun to lead me to a black SUV parked a few steps from the bookstore. "Driver?" I whispered.
"Yes. Things get a little hectic at work sometimes so I have someone do most of my driving." When we reached the car he opened the door for me, "Dalia this is Micheal, my driver. Micheal this is Dalia."
"Hello," I said quietly, sliding in as the man in the front seat nodded once through the rearview mirror,
"Of course he's wearing all black and sunglasses." Miles laughed and slid in beside me, closing the door.
A few minutes into the drive I looked over at Miles to see his face in his phone. "So, where are we going?"
"Just a little restaurant not too far from here."
However, the restaurant was not "little". It was insanely huge. There was a line outside, lit up by the red lights that wrapped around the buildings roof.
"Oh my god Miles. There is no way we're gonna get into this place." He slid his phone in his pocket just as soon as the driver parked and opened his door.
Reaching his hand out for me, he smiled and said "yes we will."
I took his hand and we walked up to the doors. Miles' hand on my back kept me moving past the line, even though i was confused as to what we were doing.
When we got up to the hostess stand, the women working looked up with a smirk on her face. "Mr. Calo. Welcome back."
She cut her eyes to me for a split second, let out a sigle chuckle and grabbed two menus with a "follow me."
As i followed the waitress to a booth in a secluded section, I got a look of the restaurant. "oh my god"
This place was even more expensive looking then the last.
It had dim lighting and every table had a small stick candle on it, lighting up the faces as they ate.
Once we were both seated comfortably in our rounded booth, i mumbled, "there's no way i can afford this, miles."
"what can I get you two to drink?" Our waiter asked, he was a bit younger and was obviously stressed over the dinner time rush.
"Bourbon for me. And a red glass of wine for her. Thanks."
The waiter scurried away and I turned to Miles, who was sitting next to me.
"What the fuck is up with these restaurants you keep taking me to?"
He smirked slightly and put his arm on the booth behind me, "I think you'll get used to it."
I shook my head, "I don't need this." He raised an eyebrow and titled his head slightly to the side. "I don't need fancy dinners or private drivers. I'm perfectly fine with a pizza and a crappy movie."
"Okay. We'll do that next time." It was my turn to raise an eyebrow, "And what makes you think there will be a next time?"
Smirking again, I heard his finger tapping on the back of the booth behind my ear, "Because I told you. I want to get to know you more."
