Lily and Liz heard someone yelling behind them. “Lily! Hey! Lils!” They saw a greasy-haired Slytherin boy coming their way.

“Sev! Hi!” Lily greeted him.

“What’s she doing here? Why are you hanging around her? I thought we were friends.” The boy asked.

“We are but I have other friends too. Liz, this is Severus. Severus, this is Liz. Do you guys mind waiting here for a bit, I’ve got to ask McGonnagal something?”

“Sure.” When Lily closed the class door behind her, Liz held out her hand to Severus and said ”Hi. I’m Elizabeth Browser, but you can call me Liz or Lizzie.” Liz held out a hand but he didn’t take it.

“Oh, you’re the forefinger. Croatian, aren’t you?” He said in a rather repulsive tone.

“What’s that have to do with anything?”

“Well, maybe you are considered clever in your little village back in your country, but trust me, you’ll struggle to keep up here.” he sneered.

“It's not a little village! And, as far as I see, I at least know basic manners. Now move, I'm warning you.”

“What did you say?” he was obviously confused.

“Oh yeah, you can’t understand me. You should get used to it, big words are obviously not your thing. And I said 'now move, I’m warning you.’”
Lily returned just as James, Sirius, Remus, and Peter came up to them.
“Hi, Liz. Did Snape annoy you much? I wouldn’t be surprised.” James smirked.

“You leave him alone!” Lily yelled.

“Calm down, Evans, he’s the one
annoying our friend.”

“Yeah! I heard him! He said some awful things, you know?”

Lily grabbed Snape's arm and left.

“Well, he’s a jerk. How can Lily hang out with him?” Liz said.

“I have no idea, but let’s go, we’re gonna be late for Slughorn.”
