Filch led them to Hagrid’s hut, along with one other students called Roger Davies, he was a fourth year too, but in Ravenclaw. Apparently, he got in trouble for hexing another student.

“Fer today, you will help me with the bowtruckles over there. There are some on those trees in the forest, an' we have to get 'em out because the trees are infested so we have to get rid of 'em for a while just to clean the trees up. But beware, nasty little creatures they are.”

Hagrid said and led them into the forest.
He was really friendly towards them and asked Liz a lot of questions about Croatia.

Davies rolled his eyes every time Croatia was mentioned, but none of the others saw it. They walked for about five minutes and then they stopped.

“Alright. James 'an Sirius, you can get the bowtruckles on those trees over there, on the left. Liz 'an Davies, go get those a bit further away, ok?” Hagrid instructed them.

Liz and Davies started working on their trees, climbing them and shaking the branches and using spells to get the little creatures out.

“You could just use your wand.” Davies told Liz after she climbed a particularly big tree.

“I know, but it’s more fun this way.” Liz smiled.

“Stupid girl. Muggle-borns can’t do anything right.” He said, rolling his eyes.

“Oh really? I didn’t see you get a single bowtruckle down, unlike me.” She gestured to a basket full of them near her.

“Whatever.  I’m not supposed to be doing this anyway.” He sneered.

“And why’s that?” Liz raised an eyebrow.

“Simple. You were raised to do this work. Muggle stuff for girls. I’m better than that.” He said pompously.

“Muggle stuff for girls?!” Liz shrieked “What does me being a muggle-born girl have to do with anything?”

“Oh, as if you’d be able to beat me in a duel or a muggle fight. You just aren’t fit to do that.”

“Alright, square up buddy, because I’m gonna fight you right now. A là muggle, or wands, whatever, I can beat you in both!” Liz meant it.

Davies was visibly scared. Liz got immense pleasure from seeing him frightened.

“Fine.” He drew his wand. So did Liz.
“3…2…1… Go!”

“Petruficus totalus!” Davies yelled, but Liz blocked the spell.

“Incarcerus!” Davies was tied by thick ropes, flushing and trying to get out.
“You mudblood! Untie me! Now!” he yelled. “Didn’t you hear me? Merlin, uncultured foreigners!"

“No.” Liz said, refusing to let him know how much his words hit her.
An arrow flew next to Liz’s head…
