“Do something!” Peter yelled.
Liz raised her wand and yelled “Colloportus” and the door shut behind them.
They could hear the creature scratching the door and it seemed like it was about to crash through it. They turned around and ran. Ran as fast as they could to the exit of the tunnel. Whatever came over Remus, it was beyond their power to stop it.
“What… what was… that..?” asked Liz, panting after they climbed out if the passageway.
“I think… it was… a werewolf… Remus… Remus is a werewolf!” said James, trying to catch air. Everything finally made sense.
“Really? I’ve heard of them from muggle stories, but in them, all the werewolves acted differently. What does it mean to be a werewolf in the wizarding world?” Liz, once again, displayed that she was muggle-born, raised away from stuff the boys deemed normal.
“It’s like a disease. If you’re bitten by one, you turn into that every full moon. They say that it’s awfully painful and you can’t remember anything. Can’t believe he hasn’t told us.” Sirius explained.
“But… what if he’s dangerous. When it’s not a full moon, I mean…” feared Peter.
“He’s not!” James yelled.
“And even if he was, who cares? He’s our friend, I think he’ll need us. We couldn’t just leave him alone to deal with turning into a werewolf once a month, right?” Liz looked around at her friends.“Yes!” James and Sirius said simultaneously, but Peter was a bit more hesitant.
“We’ve got to do something to help him!” James said.
“Of course we do, but what?” Sirius asked.
“I don’t know, we’ll have to think of something, but first, we have to talk to him. Tomorrow is Saturday, Liz comes to our dorm in the morning so we can speak to him about it.” James said.
~
“When did he come back?” Liz whispered on Saturday morning, while the four of them were sitting on James' bed, watching Remus. He was still asleep.
“At five o’clock. Kingsley left for breakfast just before you came” Sirius told her.
Remus opened his eyes and was surprised to see his best friends looking at him. Everything was silent for a minute until James broke the silence.
“Are you okay?”
“Y-yes. Are you? Did I hurt you? I’m sorry, I-“ He started, but Liz cut him off.
“We’re okay. It’s not your fault.”
“If you don’t want to be friends with me anymore, I’ll understand.” He said.“Of course we want to be friends with you!” Sirius said.
“You are no different from us, Remus.” Peter piped up.
“But… I’m a werewolf!” he said.
“So? We’ve all got problems. I’m pushy, Sirius can be obnoxious, Liz doesn't know how to shut up and Peter is a coward.” Said, James. The rest of them nodded.
“Did you actually think we were gonna let you go through hell and back alone? We’ll find a way to help you, you’ll see!” Liz said.
They all pretended not to see the tears in Remus' eyes.
