Chapter 9

Nova woke up in the middle of the night to people yelling outside the door and the knob moving. Shaking Max awake, she trembled, "Max, someone is trying to get in here." 

Max immediately woke up and looked around, he got out of the bed and pointed to Nova, "Stay there, please." She just nodded and looked at the door in fear as the yelling was getting louder, she could hear them debating on whether they should come in or not.

Max cracked the door open and looked out, "Jared? James? Why are you yelling outside my door? You are scaring my mate," Nova heard Jared's name and her wolf pushed her to go look but she couldn't. 

Then she heard his voice and immediately recognized it as he spoke to Max, "I'm sorry. I didn't know it was you and your mate. Congrats on finding her. My wolf, well he said, never mind it's not important now. I will see you at the meeting later and I look forward to meeting your mate."

Max shut the door and walked back over to the bed, laying back down he pulled Nova down and to him, "Sorry about that. I'm sure you heard it was Jared, the one who yelled and then apologized to you on the phone and he was with another Alpha James from the Hunters Pack. I don't know what it was about but when I said it was just me and you he looked angry and upset," Nova nodded and cuddled into Max's chest, her wolf whimpering as she fell back asleep.

Nova woke up, saw that it was late in the morning, but also noticed Max was not next to her, she looked around the room and didn't see him, "Max?" 

When he didn't answer she started to panic more, then she saw the door knob move and she hid behind the bed as the door opened, "Nova, why are you behind the bed? Is everything okay? Did someone try to come in here again?" 

Nova shook her head as she got back onto the bed, "You weren't here. I got scared."

Max lifted the tray up, "I got us breakfast. I'm going to be in the Alpha's meeting till the Ball begins. Wait here after you are ready and I will come get you, please don't go in there alone," Nova reached for the food and Max placed it down on the bed, "Oh, you are going to have a guard with you today, don't run from him. Especially after last night." 

Nova nodded and stuck the pancake in her mouth, "Will we have lunch together?" 

Max shook his head, his mouth full, "No, I'm sorry." 

Nova nodded and finished chewing pushing her plate away, "I'm full. Thanks, you can cancel the guard. I'm not leaving."

Max put the plates on the nightstand, "Nova, please don't be upset. I wish we could spend all day together but I can't really say no to Nolan," Nova got out of the bed, grabbed some clothes and walked into the bathroom slamming the door. Starting the shower she stripped and stepped into the hot water. When she got out and walked back into the room, Max was slipping a new shirt on, "Nova please come give me a hug. You will go crazy if we don't say goodbye."

Nova sauntered over to Max as he stood up and hugged him, "I'm sorry. My wolf is just on edge and I don't want to be without you all day." 

Max hugged her back tightly, "I know. Listen I am going to be in a room with more than hundred Alpha's disagreeing. Have fun for the both of us. Go shopping, run around, swim in the pool, whatever you want. Just no running from your guard, and please take your EpiPen with you."

Nova reluctantly pulled away from Max, "Can't you stay a little longer?"

"I wish but no. Finish eating and be ready by six," Max reluctantly opened the door and walked out shutting it behind him. Nova looked over at the plate and grabbed the other pancake eating it. 

Grabbing her phone and EpiPen sliding them both into her pocket, she headed out the door. "Luna Nova, my name is Chase. I am one of the Royal Guards but today I will be accompanying you."
