His POV:

A drop of blood plunged onto the wooden floor.

"Oh, crap..." I muttered, examining the finger I just pricked with a needle, avoiding any getting on the fabric. Patching up my wound and cleaning the floor, I get back to work.

My eagerness to see her again rose once more.

(Y/n)...

I glanced over at my phone on the nightstand. Setting everything aside and gathered up the courage to ask her if she'd want to meet up with me whenever she had the chance. I wrote the message and waited for a response. Not a minute went by when she replied, saying she would love to. As soon as tomorrow afternoon. We both happily agreed to see each other.

Your POV:

"I'm so glad you could join me today, (Y/n)! It means a lot to me." Oliver expressed happily across the table. According to him, he invited you to lunch first to talk about a few things.

"Of course! It gives me an excuse to see you!" You unintentionally blurted out.

A blush spreads across his face. He chuckled nervously. "Really?" Oliver questioned bashfully.

"I mean-!" You stuttered. "Yeah, I was worried about you, you know?!" You curved the comment to make it seem like a casual concern.

Can I be more obvious?!

You scolded yourself, avoiding Oliver's stare.

"Thank you either way. And I do apologize for putting you in that position. It wasn't my attention to burden you with my worries." Oliver said apologetically, his smile turning into a frown.

"No, please. It's fine" You reach over and put a hand over his. "All that matters is that you're here and okay."

His face turned brighter. He smiled. "(Y/n)..." Oliver gulped. "I-!"

"And here's the two crayfish meals for the happy couple!" The waiter showed up with the food. You and Oliver removed all hands from the table and looked away. Saying at the same time, in embarrassment,

"We're not a couple!"

After the delicious yet slightly awkward lunch, you and Oliver decide to walk off the food by hiking through the Redwoods Forest.

Oliver carried a backpack that contained his gift for you. He fidgeted at the thought of when and how he was doing to do it.

"Are your brothers doing alright, Oliver?" You ask, snapping him away from his daydream.

"Y-yes! They're doing great! Thank you for asking. They are rather hard to deal with at times. Especially Arthur. And he's technically the older brother after Kyle and me." He chuckled. "Still love them, though. Despite everything." Oliver took out his water bottle and drank from it.

"Brothers are something else. I'm glad you three get along." You say, hoping to reveal more. "So, how is your girlfriend?"

He immediately choked on the water and coughed harshly. "What?!"

You panicked and patted his back as he bent over in pain. "Ollie, are you okay?! I'm sorry if that question caught you off guard. I was just curious! Correct me if I'm wrong!"

Oliver calmed down and processed what you said. "I'm fine... but did you just call me Ollie?"

You two stared blankly at each other as silence consumed the area. Your face flushed red like a cherry. "No... you must be hearing things..." You glanced away, covering your face. Unable to recover from this embarrassing day.

"Maybe..." He mumbled, watching your movements as you turned to face him. His light green eyes shined brightly at you. Wanting to tell you five simple words and give you what he's worked so hard on for the last few months. He swallowed his nerves and spoke, "(Y/n), to answer your previous question, I don't have a girlfriend." Oliver took off his backpack and pulled out a neatly folded sheep wool sweater, handing it to you. "But I was hoping you could change that."

You took it and carefully examined his hands

You took it and carefully examined his hands. They were covered with healing cuts and pricks. This is a detail you failed to notice earlier back at the restaurant. "Oliver..." You say, recognizing that he was confessing to you. Him, a kind-hearted soul wanted you to be his girlfriend. You dreamt of this day. For Oliver to see you more than just an awkward friend. You nodded furiously, taking him by surprise by tackling him to the ground with a big hug. "How could I say no to the boy I love most?!"

Oliver's eyes widened and grinned at your response. "Really?!" He hugged back with a stronger grip. A tear escaped from his right eye. "That makes me so happy... honey." The last word rolled off his tongue lovingly. Already having a pet name for you.

"Me too, Ollie."

"I knew I wasn't hearing things!" He playfully scolded you.
