thought of the day: although many inquisitors would want her dead for her tactics bordering on heresy, none can deny that she obtains results, but sadly she could not and would not let any of my Ordo analyse the unique Xenos or the anomaly under her employ. but it is in my humblest opinion that we let her roam for know because she has already overachieved our expectations.
- unknown inquisitor of the Ordo Xenos

location: onboard the holy retribution

inquisitor Shepherd POV

i was awoken from my sleep by a knock on the door.

inquisitor Shepherd: yes?

???: my lady the shipmaster has called for you. he and your acolyte are waiting for you in the strategem deck.

inquisitor Shepherd: i am on my way.

i got dressed in some standard military fatigues with a layer of carapace over it and finally my coat. as i headed out i was greeted by someone wearing the uniform of the Kerkrader regiments. if not for the large tail on his back or the fact that he had three fingers he would not be that remarkable, this was one of my personal retinue his name was Lac Cyrr or officially anomaly 17453098-ty.

Lac: shall we go, ma'am?

inquisitor Shepherd: we shall but let's take the scenic route, the shipmaster can wait.

Lac: understood.

while we walked across the outer edge of the ship i could see one of my 2 other ships, the Harbinger as it was called a large dauntless light cruiser modified to carry almost half a guardsmen regiment and currently filled with my personal regiment of Elysian drop troopers. i could also see the world i recruited Lac from a decade ago, although i can remember it like yesterday.

flashback

i was walking with a squad of drop troops past a Tyranid gestation pool when suddenly something came out of it my men prepared to fire only waiting for my order. when the thing came out it looked almost human its body was in the shape of a man only it had chitin plates here and there most profoundly on his head and back, its eyes had no iris only a pure milky white colour. what was strange however was that instead of the bone coloured chitin and green skin of the Tyranids we were fighting this one had blood-red chitin and pitch-black skin. it looked around confused till its eyes landed on me and my troopers, but instead of attacking he kneeled and started speaking in an accented high gothic.

??? Tyranid: my lady, legionnaire Lac Cyrr of the 99th kerkrader siege regiment reporting for duty ma'am.

a kerkrader that escorted me took offence to that.

Legionnaire: lies, a Tyranid could never be one of us.

he was about to fire when i pulled his lasgun down making him shoot the ground.

inquisitor Shepherd: is there anything your regiment would only know about.

Legionnaire 2: the hymn of duty.

inquisitor Shepherd: see if he knows it.

most Kerkraders seemed shocked or offended but one quickly started.

Legionnaire 3: what is our duty?
Lac: to protect the faith
Legionnaire 3: what is our faith?
Lac: the emperor is our faith.
Legionnaire 3: what is the emperor?
Lac: he is our light in the dark.
Legionnaire 3: what is to be done with his light?
Lac: spread it to the farthest reaches known and defend it.
Legionnaire 3: defend it from who?
Lac: the threat without, the threat within, the threat beyond.

Legionnaire 2: what now ma'am?

inquisitor Shepherd: give him a uniform he will join my retinue if he proves himself in this campaign.

flashback end

inquisitor Shepherd: Lac, why is this planet so important for your people this is the second Tyranid invasion and they are sending four of their regiments but why?

Lac: one of our saints died on this planet his body was never found or recovered. thus we will defend this world to protect his body or in the hopes to recover it.

inquisitor Shepherd: So you would send good men to their death just for a body?

Lac: yes, and not only that my people have bled on this world four times against the archenemy and now we will do so for the second time against the Tyranids.

we entered the bridge and walked threw it to the strategem deck when we arrived i could see the shipmaster and my acolyte, the shipmaster was a stocky man with large sideburns that connected into a bushy moustache, he wore a regel captain uniform with his rank displayed on his chest. my acolyte wore a set of black carapace armour with a blood-red undersuit, his face was that of a warrior stoic and calm he had his hair short on the sides and slightly longer on the top. in between, them was a large table showing a holographic version of the world below and the surrounding fleet.

shipmaster: ah she finally appears i called for you an hour ago.

inquisitor Shepherd: what is the status of the flotilla?

our ships are in position with the kerkrader flotilla all ready to deploy their troops we are waiting on the ship of the Astral gears chapter to come into position and then till the meeting for the immediate deployment.

Lac snarled at that.

Lac: Astal gears are here?

Varl: is there a problem with that mutant?

i glared at him for the comment before Lac continued

Lac: i meant no disrespect acolyte Commodus, it is just that my people and our allied angels hold grudges against the Astral gears for centuries.

inquisitor Shepherd: what started this?

Lac: they defiled the body of our allied angels which started the grudges. a bodyguard of the chapter master was slain and instead of the recovery of his body and armour for restoration and honouring, they ripped out his essence and stripped his armour for parts.

shipmaster: so the didn't follow some rituals they didn't know about what about it?

Lac: the armour was of the first bodyguard of the chapter, of the founding of the chapter it was deemed one of the chapter relics so it was important to them.

inquisitor Shepherd: the strategy meeting will be held here and then will see how things go.

timeskip

i waited in the strategem deck as the shipmaster came in with our guests, 7 in total one wore the uniform of Kerkrader the rest where Astartes, three wore the colours of the emperor's eyes their armour seemed ancient covered in scrolls, purity seals and in Kerkrader runes. the other three wore grey armour with a black trim their lenses a bright red and the symbol of a winged gear on their shoulder, where the emperor's eyes armour seemed ancient theirs seemed fresh from the production line modified by them to function to their needs the only sign that these Astartes had seen combat was because of the many prosthetic parts on the three marines.

one of the emperor's eyes stepped forward his helmet had a faceplate with large grill under his lenses and a studded brow above them.

emperor's eyes: i am chapter master Gor Wruhl of the Emperor's eyes chapter.

following his lead one of the Astral gears did the same.

Astral gear: i am captain Maximinus Fenger of the Astral gears.

kerkrader: i am lord commander Ezdan of house Arc, i was given command of the four regiments we sent.

inquisitor Shepherd: i am inquisitor Shepherd of the Ordo Hereticus, now that introductions are out of the way, shall we begin?
