chapter 13: new and old friends

Barry's pov:

I was at CCPD going through some new cases when Iris texts me saying I need to get to Star Labs. I walk downstairs and when I get to an alley way I zoom to Star Labs. "What's up?" I ask walking in. "A breach has appeared in the breach room" Cisco says. We all go to the room and wait for whoever or, whatever opened the breach to come through. After about a minute Kara walks through. "Kara!" I say with a smile. She smiles back and walks over to hug me. We hug and then she backs away. "Hey Barry, I have a favor to ask." She says with a concerned look. "Of course. How can we help?" I say. She looks towards the breech "can my boys stay here with you?" She asks. "Of course they can!" Iris interrupts coming over beside me. I smile as Kara let's out a sigh of relief. "Thank you so much!" She says. She walks back through the breach, and when she comes back her sons stand on either side of her.

/flashback to six years ago./

Barry's pov:

We sat in the cortex waiting for Kara to come visit with her boys. Who were the same age as Emma. "Dad, when can we go home?" Emma asks me. She was 10 and full of questions. "Later kiddo, we are gonna meet some new friends first." I say. She frowns and climbs up on to my lap. "When are they gonna get here?" She whines and leans her head against my chest. "Don't whine. It will be soon." I say patting her leg. "A breach is open." Cisco says. I pick Emma up and place her on my hip. We walk down to the breach room. About a minute later Kara and Mon-el walk through each holding one boys hand. "Hi Barry." Kara says excitedly. I smile "good to see you again Kara." I respond. She walks over and does a small wave to Emma. "You must be Emma, I've heard so much about you little one." She says with a smile. "Your dad never stops talking about you." She adds with a giggle. I smile, "Emma, this is Kara." I say looking down at my daughter. She gives a small smile, "hello." She says quietly and then buries her face into my shoulder. Kara giggles. "She's not usually this shy." Iris says from beside me. I hand Emma to her and get down onto one knee. "So who's this little dude?" I ask. The boy moves behind Kara's leg to hide. "This is Ethan. Ethan this is Barry." She says also leaning down. She pulls Ethan from behind her and places him in front of her. "Hi Ethan." I say holding out my fist for a fist bump. The boy smiles and returns the fist bump. "Hello." He says. I smile and look up as Mon-el walks over with the other boy. "This is Grayson." He says. "Hi Grayson." I say giving him a small wave. He hides behind his father's leg. "Why are you hiding?" I hear Emma ask bluntly. She comes up and stands in front of me. "He's shy." Ethan says. "Come here Gray." Kara says holding out her hand for him to hold. He lightly grabs it and she gently pulls him towards her. "He's not scary. He's a superhero!" Emma says. Everyone laughs and she smiles. "My mom's a superhero too." Grayson says softly.

/back to the present/

"Hi boys." I say with a wave and smile. Grayson waves back and Ethan smiles. Kara turns to the boys, "why don't you two go look around." She says. They nod their heads and walk off. "I'll come with you boys and give you the tour!" Cisco says walking up behind them. "So what's up?" I ask. She frowns. "It's not safe on our earth right now, I need our boys to be safe." She says. "Well what's going on? Maybe I could help." I offer. "No. You are helping by keeping my boys somewhere safe." She responds, she looks towards the breach and then back at me. "Let me go say my goodbyes." She says panic in her voice as she walks towards the cortex. I follow behind her. She walks over to the twins. "Ok boys I need to go now. Remember what I told you, lay low." She says. Then she kisses each of them on the cheek. She turns to me and hugs me. "Thank you Barry. I know you will keep them safe for me." She whispers. "Of course." I whisper back. She pulls away and smiles. "Bye everyone." She says and then walks back to the breach room. "I should get back to work." I say. I lean down and kiss Iris and wave towards the twins. "I'll see you boys later." I say and walk out.
