You stopped in front of Anthony's house, honking your horn shortly. You tapped your foot, impatient. Well.. perhaps impatient was the wrong word. You were upset. Aggravated. Before you could continue listing off the long list of synonyms to describe your stormy mood, a thump could be heard from outside your truck. Anthony flung the truck door open, heaving his pack full of clothes onto the seat and climbing in. His dark curls bobbed in the effort, matching the intensity of his smile.
"Hey there Abernathy." He grinned, situating his bag between his feet. He wore a pair of dark brown pants, and a light green and yellow flannel. On top of that, a muted blue coat. It was a pretty common outfit for the Pacific Northwest, but something about the way it clashed with the stormy sky made it seem perfect for the day.
"You look nice." You remarked simply, starting back up the engine.
"Of course I do!" He chuckled, teasing. "But anyways.. uh- what are we doing? This was kind of sudden.." he paused before shoving in, "not that I'm mad though, it's fun!" The frantic way he said it implied that he might've been waiting for something like this.
"You mentioned a beach the other day.. I just want to get away for the night. I know you have some camping gear so I figured we could pitch a tent, and I know there's school tomorrow but-" Anthony's chuckle interrupted you.
"Dude, awesome! Hell yeah! And don't even worry about a tent, I have some friends who live down on the Rez. I'm sure they'll let us crash their place for the night."
You let out a sigh of relief, letting yourself smile. It was just what you needed to get your mind off of things.
'It's my turn to disappear for a few days.' You thought to yourself, while absentmindedly following Anthony's directions to the beach. You knew in awhile everything would catch up to you, but for now, ignoring it felt pretty damn good.Once you got to La Push, you parked in the parking lot near the entrance to the beach. Huge pieces of driftwood rested on the beach's shore, looming over you like a mysterious giant. You both got out of the truck, and without hesitance, ran towards the logs. You let the wind hit your face, kissing your soft skin. Closing your eyes for a moment while you ran, you let yourself let go. It was as if all the worries, the drama, everything just melted off of you with each step you took. Climbing up (as best you could) a large piece of driftwood, you threw your hands open wide and let out a small holler.
Turning back around to face Anthony, you realized when you looked down that he wasn't alone anymore. Three boys stood with him. Anthony grinned, giving you thumbs up. The other three smiled too. Instantly you dropped your arms, blood rushing to your cheeks. Climbing down, you awkwardly scooted back over to Anthony.
He turned to you. "(Y/n), these are my friends I was telling you about! Lucky us, they decided to have a beach day too. This is Embry, Quill, and Jacob. I've known them since I was kids."
You turned to the three strangers, taking a moment to take them in. They were all tall, with beautiful tan skin and dark, dark hair.
"Hey. Sorry you had to see that." You chuckled awkwardly, still embarrassed.
"No worries, it was epic." Quill said, and Embry nodded in agreement.
"It's nice to meet you, what did you say your name was again?" The one called Jacob asked.
"(Y/n)." You repeated, tucking a stray hair behind your ear. He grinned once more.
"So, Jacob," Anthony turned to him. "Do you think we could crash at your place for tonight? Or maybe Sam's?"
Jacob's complexion got foggy. "I don't know guys.."
Anthony rolled his eyes, nudging him in the ribs. "C'mon man!"
Jacob slowly let a smile break through his lips, sighing. "Alright, alright. I'll see what I can do. But now you're obligated to have a bonfire with us tonight."
I grinned, "are you serious? That sounds amazing!"
"Alright!" Embry exclaimed.
In just no time, the five of you were having a great time, fooling around and running down the beach like children. It was easy to feel at peace with these people. They were the closest you've ever felt to true friendship. As the night wore on, the stars came out. They dusted the sky, twinkling and reflecting onto the water like a million little fireflies. The boys were off making the bonfire, and so it gave you a moment alone. You went back to your truck, grabbing your hairbrush and combing out your (h/c) locks. They had gotten tangled from all the wind, and it felt refreshing to brush through them. Humming to yourself, you walked back over to the now raging fire. There were a lot more people now, and you soon got introduced to all of them. Sitting down on a log next to Anthony, you listened to everyone talk and share stories. There was a sense of community here that couldn't be found easily.
