I look around frantically, the uninvited voice in my head drowning me in his emotions. It takes less than a second for me to find his large figure moving past the pack that now surrounds me. I freeze even more in my spot, even my breathing seems to stop.
In his large wolf form, Tristan slinks past the crowd that makes way for him, their gazes solely on him. I stare as he drags his feet, his head lowered and nearly touching the ground, his tail tucked between his legs and safely under his body. My mouth drops open at his posture, the submission rolling off him in waves.
He walks straight to me, stopping a few feet away with his eyes trained on the ground in front of him. It's silent and tense in the large field, everyone's holding their breaths in anticipation, including myself.
No one's ever seen their upcoming Alpha act like this, it is definitely a sight to behold.
His eyes slowly run up my body sadly until they catch my gaze, his eyes telling an entire story. I don't look away as he, without any hesitation, lays on the ground and rolls over right in front of me.
Shock doesn't even begin to describe what I feel as he submits to me in front of his entire pack. I stare at him with wide eyes, my mouth dropped open in awe. No one makes a sound or moves, their gazes transfixed on the Alpha male on his back, completely vulnerable to an attack.
I can feel my body begin to shake again, and in no time my animal instincts take over and I'm standing on all fours. Our eyes never unlock as I stand in front of him, everyone waiting for my decision with bated breath.
The thing is, even I don't know.
I can feel myself block everything out and mentally curl into myself, my brain trying to find the right answer. Things go hazy as multiple scenarios play out right in front of me, each ending in a disaster because that's just how my brain works, always expecting the worst.
I shake the thoughts out of my head and close my eyes, taking deep breaths in order to calm my hyperventilating body. I work hard to let it all go, to get rid of every thought and focus on my feelings. I calm down as I allow my instincts to take over, my more primal side having a better chance of figuring out what to do in this situation than the human one.
Animals are guided by pure instinct, their only goal in life is to survive.
Humans are much more complicated, especially with the way we handle emotions and emotional situations.
How can I combine both? What should I do?
A wolf wants to be with their mate, not matter what. They're meant for each other.
A human holds grudges, their anger will get in the way of what might be good for them simply out of pettiness.
But what he said, what he did, was an attack on my entire being, my wolf included.
"...I'm not saying you should forgive him, but I think you both deserve the closure hearing him out will grant you."
I owe myself at least that much.
Standing tall, I open my eyes and look down at him, seeing the anxiety clearly present on his face and in his eyes. I take deliberate steps towards him, making a circle around him and sniffing him before coming to stand in front of him again. I give him a long look before leaning over and giving him one swift lick on his muzzle.
