Entry #703
The rest of the day went almost like normal, except everyone was much more serious and focused. Ally didn't crack a single joke, which is scary. According to our sources, Olkarion has been taken over, now serving as a base for our still unknown enemy. Their attack had been brief but strong.
After dinner, our team headed back to our dorm room. Micah takes off her uniform shirt to reveal a black tank top underneath. Ally headed straight for the computer in the corner, and looked up a news feed.
Micah went to her top drawer, dedicated to the snacks, and pulls out two bags of goldfish and a pack of my favorite gummies. She hands the gummies to me and the other goldfish to Ally, who takes it without looking. I climb the small ladder to my top bunk. Ally's is the bottom.
As I look at the gummies, not wanting to break the subtle silence, Micah plops on her bed adorned with green and silver. She doesn't open her bag, her gaze holding on Ally, concern written is every feature.
"You doing okay, dude?" Ally looks at the bag and sighs. She's about to reply, when a strange noise cuts her off. The roar of a lion.
We all jump and look around. My remark of the noise was silenced by another one, but this one was more of a purr. My teammates keep looking around, but I connect the dots quickly.
"Guys. I know what this is. Here-- try to clear your mind. Of everything."
"Why the quiznak do we need to do that? What the actual quiznak made that noise? Because you guys heard it too, right?" Ally looked confused and annoyed as she shut the tab. She took a breath and turned to us, her hands in fists on her thighs.
"But, Adrian, if you say that's what we need to do, we need to do it. Micah?" She turns to the blue girl, who in turn nods and looks to me.
"As I said earlier, you just need to clear your mind of your thoughts. It might be difficult, but try. Close your eyes, it'll help." There was total silence in the room.
Then, I see it. I say nothing, so I don't distract the girls. I smile while a red lion dances in the black darkness. I hear Micah gasp, and I know she's seen her own. Ally seems to be struggling, though. It makes sense, she's really worried about her family.
a/n spoilers in next paragraph
Pops is pretty stable, but her mom... Pidge took the most emotional blow, in my opinion. She was the closest to Allura, next to Lance. Though Lance has a part of her in him; what are those markings on his face? He has this constant reminder that she is there, and that she loves him. But Pidge... She's got nothing. Those Altean mice Allura supposedly hung out with seemed to have taken a liking to Pidge, but it doesn't seem to help her.
(still spoilers)
Not only did she lose a friend, she's had to cope with the loss of a daughter.
(you can come back now)
I guess I should tell the story of Forrest Skrewt. About two years ago, the Skrewts and Holts ran the Garrison. Not only did they run the Garrison, but they helped undergo research in the labs. While performing radioactive tests on a disclosed object, an unsuspecting ten-year-old ran in, searching for her parents. The security cameras caught her cries before anyone could stop the radiation. She died two days later. The emotional blow was almost impossible for the family to bear. Matt, Ally's parents, and her younger brother, Jamie, only two at the time, left for a quieter life in Olcarion.
Ally stayed, however heartbroken she was, to become a pilot. It's all the sisters ever talked about. As soon as Forrest was old enough, she was going to join the academy. Ally is still determined to take her to space, even if just in spirit.
As her team, Micah and I helped her cope. We held her when she cried, joked with her when she needed to laugh. We found pranks on Pops (who reluctantly took over when the Holts left) helped her immensely, hence the start of the prank box. She eventually began to settle back into daily life. We still try to be there for her; losing someone you love is not easy.
As motivation, Micah found a Harry Potter quote poster that will always remain within sight of where Ally sleeps. It says, "The ones that love us never really leave us, you can always find them... In here -Sirius Black"
A rugged gasp reminds me where I am. I'm in my room, with the girls, and we've discovered something truly extraordinary. I've opened my eyes, and Ally's eyelids are fluttering, a dumbstruck look on her face.
"I see it..." she whispers.
"What color?" I softly ask. She opens her eyes, a newfound hope swimming in the dark centers. Micah shifts across the room to Ally's bed, closer to her long-time friend.
"I saw the blue lion. She's beautiful. Though, what does it all mean?" The look in her eyes fades to confusion. It is perplexing. Why would we get visions of Voltron? Why not the original Paladins? And if we're the new Paladins, where and who are the others? Perhaps the answers already lie deep in our consciences...
I close my eyes and concentrate. I forget everything, every thought that comes to my mind, I dismiss it. Any feeling I feel I push to the bottom of my gut. Soon, my mind is completely blank and ready for communication.
I close my eyes and reach out... Hello? Can you hear me? Simple thoughts to test my theory. I try again, this time more fully addressing my recipient. Are you a Paladin of Voltron?
I don't expect an answer. It's quite a difficult thing to completely ease the minds, especially under pressure like this. That's why it comes as such a surprise.
I am here.
