III ‖ sudden mission
SHANGHAI
December
Location: Elysium, Styx━━━━━━━━━━
"What?!"
"Viv, calm down," I rolled my eyes, trying to get the overreacting girl in front of me to sit back down on the bench.
"No way, you need to tell me everything!" Vivienne widened her eyes in surprise, dropping her fork and it clanked loudly against the rim of the glass plate. She gave me a flirty wink and pointed her finger towards me. "Oh Iva, you naughty naughty girl."
"Shut up," I hissed. My hand shot up to cover my face with one hand and grabbed her on the wrist with the other before ushering us through the exit of the dining hall in the fastest speed known to man.
"别卖关子了!" she pestered.
(Translate: Stop keeping me on tenterhooks!)"Oh gods, seriously!" I whined, pulling on her arm so hard in order to move her away to somewhere private. "And stop speaking in Mandarin when you're excited."
"Let's not talk about me speaking in Mandarin," she brushed the topic aside immediately and continued to torment me with zeal. "Iva, come on! Who's that guy?"
"Why are you so interested?" I complained.
"It's been five years, good lord!" she threw a question back and gave me a ridiculous look.
Her words actually stung but she's right, it had been five years. I loved, I lost, and never seemed to move on. At this moment when I thought back about my encounter with Jax, a pang of guilt surfaced. I stopped where I was and dropped my head low. Vivienne must've noticed my silence because she apologised, "I'm sorry if I said something wrong."
"You know you never had to apologise for anything," I smiled sadly. Growing up with Vivienne, I had already got used to her straightforwardness. Plus, what happened five years ago definitely wasn't her fault. It was all my fault.
"And you know that I'm always here for you, right?" Vivienne reminded as she reached and held onto my arm. I know. Of course, I do. If she wasn't there with me, I would've crumbled into nothingness.
Losing Sebastian was like having my limbs amputated, but my phantom arms still flailed in desperation despite the impossibility of bringing the dead back. Even until today, the grief had never left me.
"Viv, I—"
Before I could finish my speech, the brace on my wrist vibrated. Raising it up, I skimmed through the details and shot a look towards Vivienne who is already staring at me with her large obsidian eyes. We nodded at each other before running down the hallway and towards the main administration office.
