Sooooo sorry for the long wait!!! Super-long chappp to make up for it !

The next morning I decided it was time to volunteer at the nursery again seeing as I hadn’t been in for a few days due to me looking after Henri. As soon as I got through the doors, Abby pounced.

“Ah Chloe, you’re here? I was beginning to think you’d quit haha!” She squeaked in her pathetic, patronising voice.

“Nope I’m still here, just been busy,” I said trying to push past her.

“Oh erm, you don’t need to go into the playroom quite yet- we have enough staff in there today,” She said quickly, looking flustered.

I looked inside through the glass doors and saw that the kids were running riot throwing chairs around and some suspicious-looking brown stuff trailed around the room. The staff were obviously distracted by something... but what?

I turned back to Abby and gave her a “Oh really?” look.

“No, seriously. You know what? You can just go home for today. We’re coping fine.” Abby insisted, but it lacked conviction and she kept glancing nervously at the through the glass door.

Suddenly, a piece of the suspicious-looking brown stuff flew onto the glass door and stuck there. Ergh. I didn’t even bother giving Abby another look as I flung open the door and strode inside. And stopped dead when I went around the corner. It was my worst nightmare.

Ryan stood there surrounded by squealing staff members, holding up a sparkly engagement ring. My throat constricted and I felt like I was going to cry at the sight of his familiar curly blonde hair and broad smile. I turned round to march right back out.

“Chloe?” Ryan’s unmistakeable voice called out. I stopped dead and turned round to face him.

“Yes it’s me,” I choked. Ryan smiled mischievously and flashed his engagement ring at me.

“I’m getting engaged,” he said, grinning like the bastard that he is.

“That’s nice- who to, may I ask?” I enquired.

“To me...” I turned round to see Abby run up to Ryan and start sucking his face off. Oh. My. God. I had to get out of there! I spun round and ran out of the door and into the cold December air.

*knock knock*

“Chloe, honey? Are you sure you’re ok? You’ve been in your room for three hours now and haven’t said a word to me,” My Dad’s voice came from through my bedroom door.

“Yes, Dad. I’m fine.” I said a little too sharply as I tried to hide the croak in my voice from the nonstop crying I had just endured. However, as usual, my Father ignored me and opened the door. I looked up at him and imagined what I must have looked like- blotchy cheeks, tear-stained puffy eyes and obviously the mad tree hair. My Dad ran over to me and sat on the bed, pulling me into his arms.

“Baby what happened?! Why are you crying? Tell me,” He cradled me close to his chest and I sniffled pathetically as I quickly ran through what had happened at the nursery with Ryan and Abby.

“So now I know, Dad. I know why Ryan kept going to the nursery every time I was there and turning up hours early and disappearing until I had finished my shift. He was fucking that BITCH in her fucking office! And then HE had the fucking cheat to dump ME! All this time I’ve been thinking there was something wrong with me,” I sobbed, tears of anger pouring down my face yet again.

“Hey hey enough with the language,” trust my Dad to bring my use of explosive language into the equation, “look, I know it’s hard to accept but we know Ryan is a bastard and what he did to you is wholly evil and I’d like to kill him right now, you have to stand strong and don’t let him get you down. You deserve better than him, baby girl, you know that.” With that my Dad kissed the top of my tree-haired head and went out of the room.
