A/N: I hope people still read hxh fanfics but I'm making this for me, its just a bonus if it gets reads.
Gon and I have been wandering around the boat, meeting the crew and talking to the few that weren't puking up their guts due to the rough waters. I assumed that was the first test, how could you be any kind of hunter if you had to submit yourself to sea sickness. I don't see a lot candidates passing this phase of the exam. Gon was having an in depth conversation about the boat with some random crew member who wasn't looking so hot, appearing like he was about to collapse any second. Safe to assume he was just a lackey.
Both me and Gon flinched at the distant sound of thunder, a glance around and I could see that nobody else reacted, meaning that me and Gon's advanced sense of hearing picked up on it. I brought my thumb up to my mouth and licked it, raising it up into the air.
"A storms coming, a bad one," I say, fairly unphased by the realization, but the crew member Gon was talking to looked like he saw a ghost. I let out a sigh and looked around the main area of the ship, for anyone who wasn't being affected by sea sickness. I feel bad for the ones that are, they're in for a whole new world of hurt when the storm gets here.
I fould two people who weren't being affected on opposite sides of the boat. One in a blue suit that appeared to be in his mid to late 20s and another boy with blonde hair who looked closer to me and Gon's age, although somewhat older. Blue suit was flicking a pocket knife in and out while blondie was just eating an apple. Although its not my forte to make friends it seems like it was the smartest thing to do, seeing that things are about to get hairy soon and I'm planning on not using my Nen until I really needed to, preferably while no one was looking. It could be dangerous to expose people to Nen before they get their liscence.
I decided to walk over to the blond, the blue suit guy seems a little prickly, and I'm not one to mess with a angry looking person with a knife. Blondie was sitting down next to the banister and didn't acknowledge my prescence until I was about a few inches away by looking up at me but immediately looking back down at his apple. I crouched down to about his level and showed a small, not entirely genuine smile.
"Looks like they're aren't many people still holding down their food," I joked. "I'm Y/n."
The blond scanned my face, contemplating whether or not to trust me with his name, or even reply to me for that matter.
"It appears so," He answers, deciding to trust me, his voice soft and endearing, "I'm Kurapika."
Timeskip
After an hour of stimulating conversation with Kurapika, who proves himself to be quite smart, night fell and the first storm hit, but my gut tells me that theres gonna be another worst one. Gon somehow talked me into helping the sea sick. I had conjured up some herbs while no one was looking to help some if them, Gon and others being very confused on where I got them. Gon was gullible enough to believe I got them from the storage of the boat while others who questioned were too sick to argue otherwise.
While running in between the two rooms full of sea sick passengers I ran right into someone, having my guard down I fell right onto my back. Sitting back up, I made eye contact with a man that smelt of straight booze that burned my nostrils. It doesn't help that I have an intensified sense of smell, either. He appeared to be the captain of the boat, with a little hat sitting on top of his head signifying the position.
Next, Gon ran straight into the man and fell, making the captain laugh out low chuckles.
"You two may stop," He said, closing the doors that held the sea sick wanna-be hunters, "They've already failed the exam."
Gon looked dumbfounded but a bright smile crossed my face, having been correct about that this was a phase of the hunter exam. Gon stood up and offered me and his hand to help me up that I gladly took, all while listening to the captain explain how this was a phase of the hunter exam.
Me, Gon and the captain walk up to the head of the boat. Gon and I simultaneously sniff the air seeing that there was in fact a worst storm coming.
"Theres a worst storm coming," Gon and I both warn the captain, who just chuckles.
"You both must be Ging's kids," He chuckles out before taking another sip of his beer.
My eyes widen but after thinking about if for a moment, this sailor probably tested Ging as well.
"How did you know?!" Gon questions excitedly earning the explanation from the captain, saying the story of how he tested Ging, Gon listening attentively to him.
The captain continues talking about Ging while leading us to the captains quarters.
"Have either of you learned how to steer a ship?" He questions, Gon shaking his head no as I nod, having learned during my years away from whale island.
"I'll teach you how," He says to Gon. "And if you would be so kind to notify everyone that a bigger storm is coming and everyone who wants to leave should do so now?"
"I got you," I respond, leaving the captain's quarters and going up to the crows nest, finding a bell and a megaphone.
I harshly ring the bell cutting out all chatter, having all eyes on me as I pick up the megaphone.
"Here an announcement from the captain himself! Theres a bigger storm on the way!" I saw all the color drain out of most of the people's face. "All of those who want to leave should do so now! Better luck next year!"
I chuckle to myself because of the small tease I gave the failing hunters, seeing all of them scurry away to life boats and other means of leaving. I wonder where the guy with the blue suit and Kurapika are, since theres a high likelihood thar neither of them are leaving...
