A/N: This beginning is getting a lil boring but it'll get better, I promise lol.

I sway, feeling the entire boat shake due to the it docking, I feel Gon's fingers snake around my own to keep him from falling because of the abrupt movement. I give his hand a small squeeze affirming that I got him.

The boat settled again and Leorio faceplanted onto the deck, his lanky limbs scrambling to get himself up to protect his pride, but only slipping and faceplanting again. Kurapika and I burst out into laughter at Leorio mishaps as Gon rushes to assist him.

Timeskip brought to you by angry readers who just want interaction with Killua already

After docking we found ourselces in a seemingly abandoned town. The group just continued to walk down an alley just idly talking. I balanced, walking on the top of a house that neighbored the alley they were walking down. I sensed someone tailing us but I won't make a scene over it but I am keeping my guard up.

I thought this exam would be fun, not some dull experience where we wander about an empty town with some random guy shamelessly tailing us. I let out an impatient sigh, closing my eyes to access the situation.

Chances are that they're playing mind games, assuming that the hunters association is going to test our physical capabilities once we actually get to the exam hall. If I am correct that they're actually are playing mind games, I'm failing due to my impatience. I take a deep breath and stabilize myself, trying to stay calm and collected. I glance down at Gon and see that he's talking to both Leorio and Kurapika, all of them seem to be alright in this situation.

I mentally mute their ongoing conversation to see if I could hear anything, any villagers, footsteps... Anything that'll make some progression. Using En would be the easiest of solutions but like I keep telling myself I don't want to expose anyone to Nen prematurely, and this is more of a challenge.

I hear, not that far but indeed faint, footsteps. It would be easier to locate and hear if the boys weren't talking so damn loud.

"Hush!" I yell at the group, Kurapika and Gon curiously comply but Leorio opens his mouth to protest.

"Don't Leorio, she hears something," Gon helps and Leorio shuts up.

"Come out before I come to you!" I yell, my eyes fell on the door that led inside the house that held, for my knowledge, the entire population of this town.

An old wrinkly woman steps out.

"I will ask you a question with two options, so you can either respond in 1 or 2 based on which order I give the option," She states right off the bat.

The person who was tailing us finally revealed himself, springing from behind a wall.

"I'll go first," He says with confidence. Leorio is shocked by his appearence but the rest of us already knew of his existence. Something tells me that Leorio will only just barely scrape by the hunter exam with our help.

"Your mother and your true love have been kidnapped, which one do you save? 1 Your mother or 2 Your love?"

There's... There's no answer to that question..

There is no answer to that question

The answer is silence, I've deciphered quickly. The woman never said that we must answer 1 or 2.

Leorio looks pissed due to the question, Gon's ears are spewing steam trying to figure out the "correct" answer, Kurapika looks relaxed, having his arms crossed and eyes closed. He's either figured out the riddle or has come to peace with himself finding his own answer between 1 or 2. I think its the prior, only because I'd like to see him as a smart person.

"One," the man answered. His mother. It doesn't take a psychologist to figure out thats what any old woman would want to hear and I assumed thats why he chose that answer. Smart, but not smart enough.

"Go left," The old woman stated and the man strutted to the left confidently, thinking that he just got through that trial no sweat, I don't know what lies before him down the ally but I know it can't be good.

"Thats an impossible question!!!" Leorio yells angrily.

"Quiet down," Both me and Kurapika tell him, glancing at eachother but back at Leorio.

"Next question. You must kill either your best friend or your sibling. Do you kill 1 Your best friend or 2 Your sibling?"

Leorio expression once again went angry and he digged into the pocket that I knew held his knife. He was about to attack the woman.

In a flash I'm in front of the woman protectively, I wasn't just about to let Leorio attack the woman for testing us.  Leorio, who moved to fast to process where I was standing continued to slash down towards me, my reflexes are going to save me in this situation knowing I can catch his wrist no problem. Kurapika still appears in front of me blocking his attack with his nunchuck.

"The answer was silence!" Kurapika angrily yells at Leo, "We've passed!"

Leorio's eyes widened, looking past Kurapika to see me, the fact processing that if Kurapika didn't block his attack, he would've hit me (If I didn't stop him myself)

"S-Sorry.." Is all he could muster up.

"Is that all you can say?! You were about to-" Kurapika angrily continues, his grey eyes seemingly having a reddish undertone. I put my hand on his shoulder, calming him down and cutting him off.

The two boys finally put their weapons down.

"Ohhhhh..." Gon says, understand silence was the answer, the smoke finally stopped coming out of his ears. The only reason he stayed quiet is because he was too busy in his own world trying to find an answer.

I chuckle at Gon's simplicity, patting and ruffling his big hair.

"I'm assuming we're going right.." Leorio mumbles to the woman ashamed of his actions yet refusing to apologize.

I flinch roughly due to hearing the man yell out painfully. Like I thought, whatever waiting for him at the way of the alleyway  wasn't pretty.. Kurapika rests a hand on my shoulder, comforting me, I give him a weak smile in alternative to a thank you.

"Yes, to the right indeed," The old woman said politely. I glare at Leorio for attempting to attack the nice woman.

Gon and I both say our thank you's before turning the corner with our companions, seeing a man and a woman holding hands.

Gon and I glance down at eachother, our enhanced senses of smell tell us something isn't right between the pair.. They might not be human
