SARAH'S POV:

The next morning, I stretched as the rays of sunshine danced in my room. We overslept just a tad, or at least I did. I haven't had a good night's rest in a while.

I bounced out of my bed, putting on my clothes. Thank goodness I know how to put a corset on my own. While tying the strings, I glanced at my closet. My eye caught a glimpse of my old bow and arrow. I sighed as I remembered the memory.

FLASHBACK:

"Leeelandddd! Come on! Come on! We're going to miss the Great Rainbow of the summer!"

Leland laughed at my excitement, saying, "wait just one sec. I've got the perfect place to see it. Come with me."

He led me to a steep hill, and when we made it to the top, he flopped on the ground dramatically, making me laugh at him.

"Oh...WOOOOW!!"

The view was AMAZING! I could see the entire sky, and within the sky was this ginormous rainbow. I cheesed back at him, then my smile turned into a shocked look. I covered my mouth.

He was on one knee, had a ring in one hand and a bow in the other hand. "Sarah Lee, will you do the honor of marrying me? I hand-carved this bow, and I was hoping that I could show you how to make your own arrows. I could-"

"Yes! Yes! Yes!"

His smile was so bright, going from ear to ear.

END OF FLASHBACK

I shouldn't be thinking of him...he betrayed Jim and I, leaving us with all this. It was his idea about helping everyone in this village who didn't have a home, or not enough food. He wanted to help people...and he reminds me a lot about Jim. He's like the clone of my husband...or rather ex husband. Why did Leland have to leave us? If only he could see how strong and intelligent Jim has become. I'm definitely a proud mama.

Anyways, I grabbed my bow and arrow after I got dressed and went downstairs. My bags were already down by the front door, and so was Amelia, helping herself to some coffee. "Morning. Sleep well?"

I let my hair down as I tied my shoes. "Yes, are the kids up? Are they ready?"

"Yes, they went to my house first thing this morning to make sure I was up. James didn't want to wake you up, so he let you sleep in. Nice bow, homemade?"

"Oh yes, years ago. Back when I was dating Leland."

"Leland? Leland J. Hawkins?"

"Yes, how do you know him?"

"He worked with me several years ago. Wanted a job on my ship. I was fine with it til he started to steal things that were mine. I kicked him off."

A pain was in my stomach. That's what he did to me...he stole most of my jewelry and even some of Jim's toys. I pushed it in the back of my mind and smiled. "I don't care what he's doing with his life, he left Jim and I because he wasn't ready to become a father. As long as I'm in Jim's life, being the best mother I can be, I'm satisfied with that."

Amelia smiled as she finished her coffee and folded her newspaper. "Well since you're ready, let's go ahead and go. The ship is ready, it's by the docks."

My heart stopped. That's the last time I saw Leland. Out by the docks...

~~~
"Mom!" I turned around to see my lovely son, Jim, with (y/n) by his side. They honestly look so adorable together. It might be too soon to say, but they would be the cutest couple! But then again, I could be wrong...I mean I've said the same thing about his past girl, Kate, but that was his first love and well...she just wasn't the right one for him. I hate seeing him hurting like that. It was almost a year ago...
Jim caught up to me, pulling (y/n) behind him as we all got onto the Legacy. "Wow Mom, I've never seen your hair down since...well since Dad left...sorry that's a touchy subject, anyways, (y/n) is artsy and crafty like you are so I'm sure you'll have lots of fun. Since it's a 2-week trip!" He smiled brightly.
(Y/n) hid behind Jim in embarrassment. TOO CUTE!!!
"That's great news honey! Good thing I brought my arts and crafts supplies!" I hugged my son, kissing his forehead. He pushed away slightly, embarrassed. "Moooom, stopppp!"
Amelia leaned against the wooden wheel with a playful smirk. "Alright crew! Doing roll to make sure everyone is here! Sarah!"
"Present!"
"Mr. James!"
"Here."
"(Y/n)!"
"Present."
"Delbert!"
"H-here!! No wait I should say present! I'm present!"
Amelia face palmed. "Delbert...why are you wearing THAT again???" I turned around to find Delbert in a bright yellow suit. It looked like it was a submarine but as an outfit. Doc huffed. "I thought it would be useful!"
"It wasn't the last time we were here. It only made you look like a fool." Jim said, laughing. I playfully smacked him. "Jim!"
Amelia shook her head, laughing at her husband. "Anyways, we're all good and ready to go. James, why don't you go downstairs to the galley. There's a surprise waiting for you. (Y/n), you can stay."
Jim looked confused but went on ahead. (Y/n) stood there, hugging herself as she felt awkward around the new surroundings. "Sarah, you and Delbert will be helping me. (Y/n), for you being still grounded from raising your voice to us last night and being rude to Mrs. Hawkins the night before, you will be mopping and scraping off the barnacles at the bottom of the ship."
Her eyes flickered red. "But Amel-"
"No. You will not call me by that. I am Mother or Ma'am to you. Do you understand?"
She cursed under her breath before snatching the bucket full of water and the old mop. "...yes ma'am."
I walked over to Amelia. "Will I have any jobs? Chef?"
"No you will stay with me as my 1st mate. Delbert will help with navigations, James will do the engine room and galley with Mr. Silver, and (y/n) is our cleanup. Meaning, dishes, mopping, scraping barnacles, and other chores."
"Mr. Silver? So that's the surprise?" I sighed, watching (y/n) being used basically as a slave. I hate the way Amelia was punishing her. (Y/n) wanted to go to find out about her family and hometown, not to be a slave and work her ass off. Excuse my language, please.
"Alright, here we go!" Amelia cried out, smiling and happy that she was back to sailing. "Honey, can you turn on the artificial gravity?"
Delbert gave her a thumbs up, running down some stairs to the wiring room.
I gave Amelia a confused look. She grinned. "It's for us. If we don't have it, we get sucked up in space forever."
I nodded, understanding. Delbert came back. "Artificial gravity on, Captain."
"Alright, good. Tell everyone to brace themselves. Sarah, hold this for me. Delbert will be right next to you, telling you how to drive the ship. I have to go down below."
I nodded again and grabbed the helm, bracing myself against it while I had a firm grip on it. Amelia left then I could her voice in a communications pipe. "Ready??"
Delbert answered it. "All ready, Captain, take her away!"
My smiles softly. "Yeah....take her away."
