002 - ɪ'ʟʟ ɴᴇᴠᴇʀ sᴛᴏᴘ

kairi had no idea what he was gonna do. he had been crying in his room for hours. he hadn't checked his phone since mattia felt. his heart had been crushed by his own actions.

i don't know how to wish anymore

his ringtone. kairi picked up his phone, it had been sitting next to him on his bed. ale was calling? why? wasn't he hanging out with alvaro?

kairi answered anyway. "come to the door. now." and then he hung up. kairi was so dumbstruck he couldn't move a muscle.

"KAIRI, ALE IS HERE!" maiya screamed at the top of her lungs making sure her brother could hear her.

he let out a heavy sigh. he walked over to his door and cracked it open, just enough to stick his head through. "send 'em up!" he said back to her.

he could hear the footstep downstairs, so he closed his door and went back to lay on his bed. he wiped his nose and under his eyes. "pathetic." he quietly said to himself, making him want break down again.

before he could, alejandro walked into the room. "kai, kai-kai, bro, what the fuck happened?" he asked moving to sit next to kairi.

"me and matti got into a fight about something really stupid."

"you guys get into fights all the time though. why is this any different?" alejandro's voice was hushed. he didn't want to startle kairi.

"i-i'm" kairi hesitated, he wanted to tell ale he was gay and that he liked mattia but he didn't know without sounding fucking insane. "ale i-" kairi almost instantaneously started to break down. he was unraveling, he couldn't handle anything anymore. he had lost his everything. so, what did he have left?

alejandro wrapped his arms around kairi as he sobbed. "i'm sorry." kai said into his chest.

"it's alright, man." ale rubbed kairi's back and just let him cry it out.

then he heard footsteps and mumbles, he assumed it would be maiya, but damn was he wrong.

mattia pushed kairi's door open. he paused in the doorway. he didn't expect to see his best friend hugging ale. what? why does it matter? he started this. kairi looked up and his eyes became wide and filled with more tears.

he quickly moved away alejandro, losing all hope in the whole 'things can get better' hug he was giving him. kairi hid under his blanket.

"i came to get my pods. i forgot them here." mattia said in a low and irritated tone.

"well, hurry up and get out. both of you." kairi said. kairi wanted to be alone for than anything in the world at the exact moment.

"but i didn't do anything." alejandro said sadly. kairi moved from his covers and looked at ale. he nodded and started out of the room passing by mattia as he left. "bye, kai."

mattia walked in and grabbed his airpods off of kairi's bedside table. "bye, bubba."

there was silence. both boys froze. mattia didn't mean to say it, it just slipped out. he had completely forgotten what happened earlier for a split second.

"bye, bubby" kairi said back. those were their nicknames for each other. bubby and bubba. sometimes they would switch them but most of the time that was it. when they were alone was when they had called each other by the pet names the most.

the names hit both boys in the chest like they crushed that one dude during the salem witch trails.

mattia, after the encounter, didn't want to walk away. he wanted to jump into bed with kairi and tell him he was sorry for doing something that came natural to him.

he probably wouldn't word it that way but still.

he walked out of kairi's room and down his stairs. "hey maiya?" he said to the younger girl sitting on the couch watching youtube on her phone.

"what's up, mattia?" she said with a small smile.

"talk to kairi for me. make him feel better, okay?" he asked her. he felt guilty in a way even if he didn't know why. it wasn't his fault girls were constantly all over him and he didn't mind tapping them.

"yeah, of course." she had confused and concerned written all over her face. "bye, mattia."

"see ya, mai." he said as he left kairi's house for the second time that day.
