Observation:

A couple sits across from me on the subway in a small two seater bench.
They cuddle, and turn to each other. At this moment they begin to Eskimo kiss. The woman holds a black bag with the words "sex" on the outside of it. I think this is the most mushy gushy couple I've ever seen in my entire life. They are literally all over one another, kissing, staring deeply into one another's eyes. They truly are in their own universe and then the odd spectators around them are just...there.

Reading reaction:
An uninflected image is the best one. In fact apparently a succession of images juxtaposed is one of the most important things to know as a director. It's important to tell the story and let the audience be surprised. I like these tips because the remind me that as a director you have creative freedom. You don't have to do exactly what the script is telling you to do, you interpret how you decide and then allow the important parts of the story to show.

The audience requires drama, not information. "A movie script should be a juxtaposition of uninflected shots that tell the story". I also find it to be very interesting that a vast majority of the directing lies in the shot list. The image the director has in mind for the scene is very significant and once on set their duty is to mainly worry about following plans, helping actors and staying awake!
