Chapter 6
Adriel
Alyssa is silent, and all motion has ceased. She looks...strangely peaceful. Her hair is beginning to lose the fiery red tint it gained and is becoming a dark, murky brown.
"What the hell do you think you're doing?" I push him into the wall, emanating my best efforts to achieve intimidation, yet I fall short.
The boy speaks," Something you should have done before this fight erupted. I would have intervened sooner but I assumed you and your comrades had it together," he glances at the two corpses, "I assumed wrong." The boy was brawny, and about my height, he had hazel eyes, light brown hair and a tan that was similar to Alyssa.
"Just who the hell do you think you are? You stab Alyssa and then you insult me, you have some nerve you son of a b-", I say before I'm interrupted.
"Watch your language around your elders boy. The way you and your comrades created human bodies to achieve the look of youth is the same as what I've done. I've come here as a Watcher for the High Council to observe, at a distance, and protect if necessary," he states a matter-of-factly. He stares at my hands, which are holding him at the collar of his shirt, I release him.
"You didn't have to hurt her, she would have calmed eventually," I grumble, though I'm not sure if I'm correct.
"Eventually? Do you honestly think that would have happened? You don't seem to sure yourself," he's becoming remarkably irritating with his question, "say she didn't recover her normal self, what would you do then? Kill her, or be killed?"
This posed question stops my tracks.
SURELY SHE WOULDN'T KILL ME. NO. SHE TRIED TO RID OF TONY AND ME WHEN SHE WAS FIGHTING WITH AZRAEL.
Though I'm in conversation with myself, the boy continues to speak.
"She would kill you and your comrade if you continued to get in her way. She vanished, and not even you could reach her," he looks contrite," in all truth, I should've intervened, then no lives would've been lost. My name is Benjamin, but Benji is less of a mouthful, so feel free."
WAIT NO, ALYSSA'S BENJI? IT CAN'T BE!
"Benji? It can't be you, can it?"
"Haha, I haven't been called that since I trained Alyssa. Oh those were good times," he's reliving the moment. "That's how I knew how to stop her. She's violent in that state, she's even managed to harm me when I was training her," he pauses to lift his shirt.
I'm shocked, his lower torso to his left rib cage is painted with rigged pink skin. There's to many scars to count, if there were any muscles before, they definitely aren't there for the eye to see anymore.
" Yeah, like I said, I should have intervened sooner. I would've avoided a loss of blood on both occasions," he positions his shirt back down. "Back to the point, I'm here as a Watcher for the High Council. I've been here a while to make sure that everything runs smoothly. I'll have to report this immediately, so if you'd be so kind as to keep her in Oblivion for a while longer, at least until she's no longer a threat."
"Wait! Why did they send you, aren't Watchers not supposed to have previous relationships with the targets? Does the High Council know? Or did you lie?" My questions surprise me, but being the inquirer has always been a characteristic of mine.
"That little thing? No, they still enforce it, but since it's Alyssa we are dealing with, they decided the best decision was to have me watch over her. I've seen her worst, hell I've been her worst! Haha," he laughs crutching at his stomach," well not much anyone could do about that." His face is carefree for a moment but turns to solemn. "Seeing her like that, it-it shocked me. She's grown and has learned to contain her rage, but that was the last straw," Ben gestures to Jeremy. "When she cut me open, it was because I refused her a break, and continued to push her, almost to death. At first I though it was a last primal instinct to protect herself. But then when she changed after death, I realized its just pure rage. She must have realized this sooner than me for her to acquire such patience. Ah, there I go rambling again, like I said till she's no longer a threat!" Ben leaps toward the ceiling hole, and disappears into the dark clouds.
I'm left looking dumbfounded at the hole, until I'm reminded of Tony, by his gasp for air.
"Damn, I'm coming Tony," I rush toward Tony, sweat is beading on his forehead and his breathing has quickened. I move my hands to a similar position like his, and begin to think of what to do once Alyssa wakes
