Chapter 9
Dalin
My mouth is left wide open. Brothers? How did I not notice? Now that I've been let in the secret, it suddenly becomes obvious. The way she jokes with them, the amount of emotion she had when Jeremy died. Adriel and Tony are the same, completely shocked that their SISTER gave up the secret.
"I-is it really true? You are siblings," my voice is despite my surprise.
Adriel and Tony both look at me, only Tony responds, "Yes. As she said, we are blood. You must have done something that made her give up the truth to you," he wonders aloud looking at me curiously.
Adriel manages to speak, "You need to return to your quarters. Alana needs to...dispose of some waste and afterwards she needs rest. We will walk you to your living quarters and part with you there." He looks at Tony, and he nods his head. "Let's go," they agree in unison.
There's no point in arguing with them so I begin walking down the stairs, taking lead of the group. I don't really know if this was the best idea. It feels weird knowing there's two powerful Warriors just walking behind me. I start worrying so much I begin to walk faster. The way to my room is going by slow. I've memorized my room and all the possible ways to get there, but I can't seem to find it knowing they are behind me. After what seems an eternity of awkwardness, I pause at my door. My "room" is shared with 4 other guys. It's really a classroom but without all the desks and other school related materials.
"Thanks I guess," I manage to mumble. I open the door, allowing my roommates to be seen by the Warriors.
"Just stay here, I know we've been lenient over you guys leaving your rooms. But there's too much of a risk now, and I don't think Alana will be happy if she finds out that you or anybody else gets hurt today," Adriel states clearly addressing me though he speaks to the entire room.
He and Tony begin walking away, but before I close the door Tony whispers to me, "Don’t go so hard on Alana. She's hard on herself enough, she doesn't need a school full of critics."
I shut the door and turn around to face my roommates. I share the classroom with 4 other high school students. Jacob, a senior who played Varsity football before this all happened. I've only spoken with him a few times. He doesn't like me much because he and Alyssa had a thing that didn't even last for a month. Brent is a junior who was in off-season waiting for baseball season to start. He knew Alyssa since 4th grade and had developed a best friend relationship with her. Last but not least, I shared a room with a really quiet freshman named Matt. We had cots and wool blankets with pillows to sleep on. We each had our own little corner so no one wandered into another's territory. My corner was filled with folded clothes, books, a hamper, extra blankets and pillows (for whenever Alyssa was brave and would sleep with me) and a tiny brown lamp. I got along with Brent fairly well. He shared the wall with me but the opposite corner. He was the closest to the door, and always to first to wake up. He knew I developed feeling for Alyssa before I even knew. Hell, he even told me to go for it. He was dark skinned, a mix of Mexican and African American. He had a tiny scar on the center of his forehead with the whitest teeth that would blind the eyes. He was easy-going even in catastrophe.
"You're not staying in are ya," Brent says it not in question but as a statement. It's crazy how he knows what I'm going to do even before I'm decided.
I laugh not sure how to answer him even though he already knows the answer. Jacob grunts as he takes his clothes off leaving him in boxers and a T-shirt.
GEEZ WHAT THE HELL IS WITH THIS GUY? IT'S NOT LIKE ALYSSA AND HIM WERE EVEN REALLY A COUPLE.
"Do you honestly think you're gonna get somewhere with her? She can have anyone she wants. She's beautiful, smart, and strong. She's my type-a-girl," Jacob comments.
