Chapter 12
Alana
After I drop Dalin off in the 300 hall, second floor, I go off to find Adriel. I find him sitting, leaning against a wall with his head hanging. I guess he's been tired this whole time. It's strange how he never shows any emotion or feelings anymore. I attempt to make my footsteps as quiet as I can but Adriel wakes, clutching at his sword.
"Are you okay? You seem so jumpy lately," I comment on his behavior with a smile.
Adriel yawns and stretched, "Yeah, just exhausted. Did you need something?"
"No," I lie, " it can wait. Go get some rest, Tony will be here shortly to take guard."
Speaking of, Tony should've already been here by now. And then it hits me. He seemed overly eager about taking guard.
OH NO, HE'S GONE TO SEE MATT.
"Hey where'd you put the spy at?" I ask attempting to hide my worry with a smile.
"Room 502. Why do you ask?" Adriel's beginning to become suspicious. I need to distract him.
"That way I know where to go in the morning. I'm gonna hit the sack, see ya later," I yawn.
"I'll accompany you in the morning. Once Tony gets here I'll do the same. See you in the morning. Goodnight, sis," he smiles bowing his head.
The last part tugs at my heart. Why does he have these sudden waves of kindness? I want to stay on the subject but my attention needs to be somewhere else.
I wave and walk away, heading toward the stairs for the third floor of the school. When I hit the top I run for it. There's no telling what Tony's thinking.
I find the room and throw the door open. Tony is punching the spy in the face repeatedly, his face is covered with blood.
"TONY STOP! Look at him, he's done. Just stop," I command not sure if my brother is here.
Tony drops his hands and pants. "He said he was here to kill you. That as soon as Adriel and I turned away he was going to kill you. I can't...I can't lose you Alana," he pants as his exhaustion kicks in.
I grab him by the shoulders and pull him in. He drops his head on my shoulders as he wraps his arms around me. I hold him like this for a while, trying to soothe my Warrior.
"Listen to me," I command, "this guy will never hurt me."
Though Matthew's face is bloody and plump, he smirks.
"That's right. Calm your Warrior all you want because soon you'll be gone," his voice makes Tony go still.
"Go take guard. I'll see you in the morning," I say distracting Tony for the moment.
He nods and heads off.
"But get yourself clean first," I yell after him.
After I watch him disappear down the stairs I turn my attention to Matthew. His hands are tied and bound by one of Adriel's specialties. Even I had a hard time getting out of the restraints. It took me two and a half days to rid myself of them. Matthew has a cut along his forehead, blood in gathering in his eyes, which are both swelling from the beating. His cheeks are puffy and his lips are both busted.
"You will never hurt me," I state, unsure if I'm trying to convince him or myself.
"Let yourself keep thinking that. That will be your downfall," he slurs out.
"How can someone as scrawny as you defeat me?"
"You misjudge me. You are the strongest and most talented Warrior that's ever been seen in history. Many enemies of yours have been defeated by judging you on characteristics. You're a woman, you're seventeen, and you're gorgeous. Those who've mistaken you to be weak, have failed," he reasons.
I chuckle. Not because he's mentioned my beauty but because he's right. Many people have lost in battle because they mistake me for a weakling.
"I suppose you're correct. Well if you're so strong why'd we capture you so easily?" My question stirs something within him.
"You think I honestly lost? Ha! How foolish," he states.
I cock my eyebrows at him and say, "Well it was one hell of a show."
"Yes it was. Like when my hands were around you. Kinda like old times, don't you think, Alana?" His last word makes his lips pull up.
My world stops and I realize who I'm talking to.
"Derek?"
He chuckles and shakes his head.
"It's about time you found out. Here you are, playing house with a human. I've been under your nose, commanding my Warriors in secret, without you ever knowing," he chuckles and spits out the accumulated blood in his mouth.
I'm still reeling from this information, no longer paying attention to what he's saying.
"You remember when it was me and you against the world? How we would fight for good. I could have fought with you at my side, but your fondness for humans tore us apart," he states frowning, trying to sound remorseful.
"No. Your desire for blood tore us apart. My love for humans may have fueled your rage but you did this to yourself," my voice trembles.
"Think what you will, but just remember we will have our time again. Whether we conquer together or apart is entirely up to you, but know that we will have have it out," he shouts at me.
Why is he in the boy? Why not in his true form?
I ignore his words and ask, "If you're inhabiting that body, where's your real one?"
"Oh, miss my touch already? I'll get into my body later. Don't worry, soon enough I'll get my hands on you," he says cockily.
Before I know it, my hand makes contact with his face. He chuckles and spits out more blood.
"Go ahead and hit me. All your doing is hurting poor little Matthew," he mutters.
I drop my hands and turn for the door. I'm overwhelmed and need to get away from him but before I make it to the door he shouts, "Go ahead and run. I'll find you. And you know what? I'll kill your precious little human, Dalin. I've roomed with him long enough and heard his compassion for you. It's sickening. But when I leave this body and go to mine, he will be the first human I kill!"
I run out of the room and down the hall, almost tripping down the stairs. I trip on the last step and stay on the floor.
HOW? WHY CAN'T HE JUST LET ME BE? IM NOT SUPPOSED TO SEE HIM TILL I DECIDE!!!
I should've asked him but I was to distracted by the fact that the kid was really Derek.
I hold myself and begin to rock.
'He will be the first...'. His words echo throughout my head and I come to a conclusion.
I can no longer
