Jessie’s POV
The next day Dally was allowed out of the hospital, but he was under doctors orders to stay in bed and rest. But does Dally ever do anything the way he’s supposed to? No. And so after I cleaned up the house we headed back down to the hospital to see Johnny. When we stepped into Johnny's room he was lying in the same position as last time, except he was now able to lie on the bed without a cushion and he could move his arms. When we walked in he turned his head and smiled at us.

“Hey guys, how's it going?”
“Hey Johnnycake, how are ya,” Dal says smiling back.
“I'm a good man just a little sore,” he replies with a smirk.

I walked over and ruffled his hair and said “I brought something for you.” I pulled out a copy of Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austian, “for when we finish Gone with the Wind.” He smiled and nodded. “So the doc tell you when you can get out of here,” Dally asked? “He said in about a week, we just have to wait till my burns get a little bit better.” I smiled and said, “Johnny that’s great!” “Yeah but the doctor said I’ll never be able to walk again I broke my back. What am I going to do? I can’t stay at my parents house all the time, they'll kill me!”

“Don’t worry I’ve got it all figured out, you can sleep on my couch most nights, you just need to go back every once in a while so it’s not considered kidnapping.” “I can’t do that Jessie, you guys have enough to worry about.” I knew you would say that, which is why I already asked my brothers and they said yes. So I’m not taking no for an answer.” Johnny knew he would never win this fight so he just laughed and said “ ok crazy girl.”

A week later Johnny was let out ofthe hospital, he was given a high backed wheelchair so he was comfortable. He can still feel his legs but he can’t move them.  A few of the families whose kids Johnny saved insisted on paying his hospital bills, which was very kind. Me and Dally went to pick Johnny up, he doesn’t know this but the rest of the gang is at the house for a little surprise party.

When we got to Johnny’s room he was sitting in his chair reading the back cover of Pride and Prejudice, with a depressed look on his face. “Started it yet,” I asked smiling. “No I wanted to wait for you and Pony,” he replied. “Well I’ve read it and it's a great book, trust me.” “You know I could use a good story right about now.” Dally smirked and ruffled his hair, “come on kid.” Johnny swatted his hand away and began to wheel himself towards the door. Me and Dally both knew Johnny wouldn’t want any help, that would just make him feel worse. Johnny wheeled up to the desk and signed the release papers, then we set off towards my house.

Once we got outside I saw Johnny smile, and it was the first real smile I’ve seen from him since he’s been in the hospital. “It feels good to see the sun again,” he whispered. I grinned at him.

When we were on my street, a worried look crossed Johnny’s face. “Uh Jess,” Johnny muttered. “Yeah.” “How am I going to get inside?” “Wait and see,” I replied smiling. When we got to the front step “Johnny's eyes lit up. While Johnny was in the hospital Darry built a ramp for each of the entrances in our house. “If you're going to be staying with us you’ll need a way to get in,” I said laughing. Johnny grinned as I leaned down to give him a hug, being careful of his burns. “Come on, let's go inside,” Dally said walking up the ramp.

When we stepped inside everything was quiet, Johnny looked confused. “Where is every-” Johnny was about to finish his sentence when the whole gang jumped out from wherever they were hiding “SURPRISE,” they all yelled! Johnny gasped in surprise and grinned as everyone ran over to give him a hug. “Welcome back man,” everyone said, ruffling his hair and hugging him. "Time for cake,” Soda called gleefully! He runs to the fridge and pulls out a huge three layered chocolate cake. He begins to cut thick slabs for everyone. Meanwhile I run to my room and grab a small stack of presents from under my bed. I set the presents on the table and looked at the gang, I laughed, everyone was eating the cake with  their hands, with chocolate icing all over their faces. I giggled and went over to grab a piece of cake, I started eating it without a fork cause who needs forks.

While I was eating my cake Darry came over and wrapped his arm around me “You did a good job princess,” he says kissing my head. “Thanks,” I say, smiling and giving him a hug. He hugged me back and said “your welcome, now go get cleaned up so we can open presents.” I smiled and ran to the bathroom.

When I got back I yelled “Ok guys it’s present time!” I ran into the kitchen and brought out the small stack of gifts. “Ok Johnny go ahead,” I say with a smile, I was very excited for him to open my gift. “Guys you didn’t have too,” Johnnys says blushing. “Just shut up and open the presents kid,” Steave said playfully. “Ok,” he says sheepishly, as he picks up the first present on the pile. He opens it and laughs, it's a Mickey Mouse shirt I automatically knew it was from Two Bit. “Thanks Two Bit,” he says chuckling. Next, he got a new switch blade from Dally, that has “were proud of you Johnnycakes” engraved on it. Next was my gift. I got him a photo album that was filled with pictures of the gang, so recent some from when we were younger. I also got him a framed photo of all of us. It was taken at one of my swim meets.

I had just won first place. I was standing in the middle of Johnny and Dally who were kissing my cheeks, Steave and Two Bit are in the front ginning and all of my brothers are standing behind me hugging me. Johnny grinned tearing up a little, “Jessie this is amazing.”

He also got a new jean jacket from Darry and Soda, new Converse from Steve and ten new books from Ponyboy. He put them in a box that said “for us to read together.” Johnny smiled the biggest smile I’ve ever seen. “Guys this is amazing thank you so much!” “Your welcome Johnny,” we all say, going in for a group hug.

After Johnny had opened all his presents it was time for the sun to set. It was kind of a nightly tradition for me, Johnny, and Pony to watch the sunset together. So we all went outside and sat on the porch. Pony wrapped his arm around me and I rested my head on his shoulder. I reached out and rested my hand on Johnny’s knee, he looked over and smiled at me. And so we just watched the sunset and everything was great. Johnny was home, I had an amazing boyfriend waiting for me inside who I love with all my heart, and I had a great family who would always love and protect me. All in all, everything was right in my world.
