Jessie’s POV
About a week after the incident at school, I was sitting on the couch watching a movie, bored out of my mind. Everyone’s busy with something so I’m home alone with nothing to do. I was about to go find a book to read when the door slammed, and Dally walked in. He came and sat next to me. I smiled. “Dally can we do something tonight,” I ask? “Actually I was just about to ask you that cause I already have something planned. Come on let’s go,” he says, pulling me up. I grin. We run out to the car after I leave a note for my brothers and speed off. “So where are we going,” I ask? “It’s a surprise,” he replies smirking. I groan and pretend to pout. He smirks and grabs my hand running his thumb over my knuckles. We drive for a while in a comfortable silence, then the car slows down in front of a gate.

“Dally where are we,” I ask? “It’s a surprise,” he replies grabbing my hand. “Wait Dal there's a No Trespassing sign we can’t go in,” I say stopping in my tracks. “Come on sweetheart we won’t get caught besides you’ve never broken a rule in your life, you have to live a little.” “But Dal this isn’t breaking a rule, this is breaking the law!” He sighs, “come on please I want to take you somewhere special tonight, besides I’m not taking no for an answer.” “Fine I’ll go,” I muttered. He smirked and picked me up, lifting me over the gate.

We walk down a dark path until I see a cliff that overlooks all of Tesla. The sun is about to start setting so it’s beautiful. I turn around and see Dally smiling at me. “So what do you think?” “It’s beautiful,” I whispered. He smiles and wraps his arms around me, then we go and sit on the edge of the cliff and watch the sunset.

“Jessie,” Dally says after a few minutes. “Yeah?” “You know I’m really bad at talking about my feelings, in fact I hate it but I love you so here goes nothing. I love you more than anything, if I didn’t have you I would be dead. Literally. You saved me in more ways than one, and these last six months have been the best six months of my life. So happy six months baby I love you.” And then he pulls this beautiful ring from his pocket, and takes my hand sliding it on my finger.

My other hand covered my mouth and tears sprang to my eyes. “Oh Dally, it’s beautiful, I love it,” I whispered. Then I tackled him in a hug wrapping my arms around him. He smiles hugging me back. “Oh thank God,” he says sighing in relief. Suddenly I couldn’t seem to control my tears, they started pouring down my face in large streams, Dally grabbed my shoulders and pulled me in front of him “Baby what’s wrong?” “It’s just your so great, and this ring is so beautiful and I forgot, I’m so sorry,” I rambled. He pulls me back into his arms and says “It’s ok I don’t care it’s ok shhhhh.

”My tears soon stop and I congratulate myself for my performance, the truth is I didn’t forget about anything, I have Dal’s present and I’m really excited to give it to him, I just wanted to see his reaction.” I pulled away from him,  and looked up at him giggling. “What,” he asks? This only made me laugh harder. “Jessie what?” “I didn’t forget I would never do that! I just wanted to see your reaction!” I look at him and he’s glaring at me, Then without warning he starts tickling me. I can’t stop laughing. I laugh and laugh till my sides start to hurt and I can’t breath. “Dal stop please,” I yell laughing. When he finally stops I sit up and crawl onto his lap, then I reach up and take a necklace off my neck and put it around his. “Dal I love you and I will never forget you. You are the best thing that’s ever happened to me and I love you with all my heart. Happy anniversary baby,” I finish with a smile. Dal smiles and picks up the necklace. It has a simple pendant with a gold star in the middle. Engraved on it are the words “I’ll love you forever and always -Jessie. '' I  look at him nervously, worried that he won’t like it. Instead of saying anything he kisses me passionately, taking my breath away. “I love you so much,” he whispers once he pulls away. “I love you too,” I whisper back.

Dally was about to say something else when we heard sirens! “Shit cops,” Dal says. We stood up and started running back towards the gate when we were cut off by a cop car. My heart drops. “Fuck,” Dally says. The cop steps out of the car and glares at us. “I should have known you were behind this Winston,” he says. He takes a pair of handcuffs off his belt and pushes Dal up against the hood of the car. Surprisingly Dally lets him without resistance, which he never does. The cop turns and tries to do the same to me  but Dally’s not having it. “Hey don’t touch her! Let her go. She didn’t do anything, she doesn’t even have a record let her go now!,” Dally yells, getting angrier with every word. The cop looks at me and finally lets me go. “Fine one warning,” he grumbles. Then he turns to Dally and pushes him into the car. “Dally no,” I yell crying! “I’ll be ok,” he calls back, “I love you,” then the door slams and they take him away, sirens blaring.

I don’t know what to do Dally’s gone, he’s probably going to get jail time for this! I have his car but I’m too young to drive, even though I know how I don’t want to do anymore illegal things tonight. And so I do the only thing I can think of, I go to a payphone and call Darry, he’s going to be pissed but I need his help so. He answers on the third ring. “Hello.” “Darry,” I say brokenly. “Jessie, are you ok,” he says, hearing how broken my voice sounds. “No Dally just got hauled in, can you come get me please? I’ll explain everything later.” “Where are you,” he asks angrily? “I’m by the old look out,” I reply quietly. “I’ll be there in ten minutes,” he says and then the line goes dead.

Ten minutes later Darry’s car pulls up and I get in still crying. “Jessie are you ok? What happened,” he asked worriedly?  And so I explain everything, from the date to our anniversary, to Dally getting hauled in. By the end of it all I was sobbing, I felt horrible! “Ok so you were trespassing, how come you didn’t get hauled in?” “Dal convinced them to let me off with a warning,” I replied still sobbing.

Darry’s face softened,“You changed him you know.” “What,” I ask? “You changed him, he would never do that for any other girl, he loves you, your good for him which is why I’m not going to tell you to stop seeing him, because I can tell you love him too.” I smile and hug him. “Thank-you,” I whispered. “Don’t thank me yet, you're grounded for two weeks home, school, no where else. Understand?” I nodded, I deserve it anyway. “And Jessie for the love of God please be careful,” he begged. I leaned over and hugged him again “I will Superman, I promise.” “Thank-you princess,” he says. “Now let’s go home,” he says smiling and wrapping his arm around my shoulder.

When we get home Soda and Ponyboy run over and hug me. Soda lifts me off the floor and spins me around. The rest of the gang came over and hugged me, then Johnny came over and pulled me into his lap hugging me tight. “God I was so worried,” he whispered. “We all were,” Pony piped in. “Well I’m fine, but Dally’s not he got hauled in,” I say sadly. Everyone sighs at the thought of Dally being back in the cooler. I sigh sadly and mumbel “good night,” to everyone and head upstairs.

Once I get up to my room I flop down on my bed and let my tears fall. It seems like I’m doing this a lot lately, but sometimes you just need to have a good cry. And so I just layed there and cried, the thought of not seeing Dally for a long time breaking my heart. I knew Dally would get at least a month for this, which only made me cry harder. I don’t really want to see anyone right now so I just layed there alone. I didn’t even get changed, I just cried myself to sleep.
