Jessie’s POV:
Over the past year and a half a lot has happened. I graduate with A’s in every class. I also got a scholarship for a teaching degree at any school I want! Dally got himself a job in the roofing business with Darry and is making decent money. I’m so proud of him! I also got myself a job at the library for the summer till I go to the college, at the local community college in the fall. We started building the house and were about half way down. Darry says we should be ready to go by this time next year. It’s been a very busy year but there’s still one more big thing. I’m getting married today! I’m so excited but I’m also so nervous! I’m seventeen now and Dally’s nineteen and I know we're young but I also know that I love him with all my heart and that’s all I need.Anyway right now I’m in my bedroom in front of my mirror putting the finishing touches on my hair and make up. For our wedding Dally and I decided to go very untraditional. It’s going to be a very small ceremony with just the gang and a few of our closest friends. We decided to have the ceremony at our lake because it’s such a special place to us.
But the most untraditional thing that we’re doing is that I’m the only girl in this wedding. The whole gang is in the wedding as Dally’s best men and my “bridesmen.” Steve and Two Bit are Dally’s best men and Johnny, Pony, and Soda are me “bridesmen.” Darry is going to walk me down the aisle and all the boys are going to wear jeans and dress shirts instead of tuxedos. I’m wearing a white dress that finishes just above my knee. It has lace sleeves and little ruffles that fan out when I twirl. I love this dress so much! I’m also using colorful flowers from the field by the lake to make a flower crown, So basically the only things we're paying for are the priest and my dress. Once I’m finished I look at my finished look in the mirror and grin. I looked fantastic! I slip on my white flats and head dowstairs.
I hop in the backseat of Darry’s truck and he speeds off to the lake. When we get there I gasp. There is a flower arch at the edge of the warf where Dally, the priest, and the boys stand waiting for me. There’s also a few white chairs on the side of the wharf where Evie, Sandy and Cherry sit. I smile, Steve, Soda, and Pony must have invited them. I’m really glad they came. Darry hops out of the truck and stands beside me. “You ready,” he asks, taking my hand? I nod and grin. Darry looks at Charry who hits the button on a CD player and The Wedding March starts to play. We slowly walk down the makeshift aisle and as I walk I never take my eyes off of Dally. He looks so happy, he has tears in his eyes. Before Darry hands me over to Dally he takes both my hands and whispers in my ear “I’m so proud of you, we all are and I know mom and dad are too. I love you baby sis.” Then he moves out of the way and Dally takes my hands and pulls me in front of him.
The priest smiles at us and then starts. “We are gathered here today to join Dally and Jessie in holy matrimony. Dally and Jessie have prepared their own vows. Dally.”
“Jessie you know I’m horrible with words but here it goes. When I first met we were just little kids but I always thought you were beautiful. That day when I kissed you it was the best thing I ever did. I love you so much in fact I think you're the only thing I’ve ever loved. I hate my dad, my mom is dead so you're pretty much all I have. You keep me sane, you keep me whole and I swear to you I will never stop loving you as long as I live and all I ask from you is that you do the same.”
“Jessie,” the Priest says.
“Dally I really should’ve gone first cause now I’m going to cry all the way through mine. Dally the truth is I think I have always loved you. When we were little I thought you were really cute but I didn’t tell anyone cause I thought they would make fun of me or you would reject me and I knew that would destroy me. That day you kissed me was one of the best days of my life. I love you so much and I swear to you I will love you forever and always. After I finished my vows I’m openly crying and so is Dal. I think everyone has a few tears of joy going down their cheeks. “May I have the rings please,” says the priest. “Rings? I thought we weren’t doing rings,” I say looking at Dally. “Well as a little wedding present we picked these out for you guys,” Pony says pulling two boxes out of his pockets. I grin as Pony passes the rings to the Priest. He passes them to us and I grin as I slip Dally’s on his finger. It’s a plain gold band with a simple design.Dally takes my hand and kisses it before slipping my ring on my finger. Mine is a gold band with diamonds all around it.
“Oh and don’t you dare ask how we afforeded it,” Soda says, smirking at me. I laugh and turn back to the Priest. “Do you Dallas Winston take Jessica Curtis to be your lofly wedding wife in sickness and in health till death do you part?” “I do,” Dallys says grinning at me. “And do you Jessica Curtis take Dallas Winston to be your lofly wedded husband in sickness and health till death do you part?” “I do,” I say crying. “If anyone opposes this marriage speak now or forever hold your peace.” Everyone was silent. “Then I now pronounce you man and wife you may kiss the bride,” he says happily. Dally dips me and kisses me. It’s like everyone else faded away as I kissed back with everything in me. When we pull away everyone claps and cheers. “I love you,” I whisper. “I love you too Baby, so much,” he whispers back pulling me into a hug and kissing my forehead. That day my life changed for the better. I have an amazing family and great friends that I know my parents would be so proud of, just like I am. And now I have the best husband in the world and I can’t wait to start our beautiful new life together.
