'Yueyue my dear, I just wanted to tell you how proud I am of you, and the work you have been doing these past two months. My daughter is a clever girl.' Says Shen Liang, beaming with pride.
'You know what would make me proud? If you started dating Ming Lee. Honestly I don't know what you are waiting for? You are not getting any younger.' Says Shen Lifen.
'I'm only 22 Mom.' Replies Yue, annoyed by her mother's words.
'Thats how old I was when I married your father.' Shen Lifen says, matter of factly.
'Lifen, times were different back then, besides, our Yueyue is a star at the office right now. She has plenty of time before she needs to settle down, with the man that she loves.' Counters her father.
'Well Ming Lee won't wait forever. He is a very eligible bachelor you know!' Shen Lifen insists.
'Well we certainly wouldn't want him to wait forever, so let us not hold him back. If he needs to move on, he must do so. Besides I have never heard Yuyue express any interest in him.'
Yue is extremely grateful that her father always stands up for her, with regards to this issue. It is a Saturday morning and they are eating breakfast in the dining room. It's been two months since she started working at Shen Enterprises, and she has been doing extremely well. Her relationship with Dylan has gotten deeper, and she couldn't be happier. She spends all her free time with him, in their own magical bubble.
Shen Lifen, not ready to be defeated says,
'Oh yes, Yue, tonight you will be attending the Shen Enterprises benefit.'
'What? Dad said that I didn't need to go. I already made other plans?'
'Well cancel them, I want you to come!'
'But why?'
'I invited Ming Lee as your date.' Shen Lifen says, casually sipping on some tea.
'But mom why would you do that? I already committed elsewhere!'
'What are these important plans that make you disobey your mother? With who?' Shen Lifen eyes Yue suspiciously.
Yue falters, looking down. It is her 3 month anniversary with Dylan, and he has planned a romantic evening for her. She has been looking forward to this, ever since he brought it up. This is also the night they are supposed to have sex for the first time.
'Uh...I made plans with Jia.' She says feebly.
'Oh it's just Jia, she will understand. In fact I will call her right now, and let her know that I need you for the evening.'
'No! Uh... I can let her know myself.'
'Well it's settled then! Ming Lee will come to pick you up at 6pm.'
