'It's my turn to hold her.'
'No, I clearly remember saying that I would hold her next.'
'Well you must be losing your memory, because it was obviously me who stated first, that I would be holding her next!'
'My memory is perfectly fine, thank you very much! You are just used to cutting the line, whenever things are not going your way!'
'Yue looks desperately at Dylan, as she holds Lian, standing in the middle of Wang Yanyu and Shen Lifen, who are currently bickering, about holding her 3 month old baby. Dylan heeds his wife call and immediately stands up from where he is sitting, rushing over to save his two girls. He immediately folds his arms around Yue, the baby in between their chests, and gives them both kisses on the top of their heads. He speaks softly so that only Yue can hear.
'Hey Momma... Daddy is here to take care of it.'
Then in a louder voice,
'Yue baby, please hand me my daughter. I want a little bonding session with her, before we eat lunch.'
Yue smiles gratefully at him, and gives him the baby. The two women finally stop talking, as they watch in dismay, Dylan walking off with the baby. Yue grabs both of their hands in hers, and says,
'Why don't we go play with the boys? You know how much they love their grandmothers. You will both get a turn with Lian later.
Wang Yanyu and Shen Lifen, both nod their heads in agreement, albeit begrudgingly. They walk over to the swing set where the boys are currently playing.
Dylan and Yue are hosting a family barbeque at their house in Beijing, so that everyone gets a chance to see the new baby. They have invited their friends, Xi Ze and Jia, who have come along with their little toddler, a boy named Wu Tao. They got married a year after Dylan and Yue, and have flown in from Shanghai. Zi Wei and Kido are also there, and they are engaged, to be married later this year. Dylan and Yue see them more often, because they all live in Beijing, and Dylan still does work with Kido, from time to time.
When Yue and the ladies arrive at the swing set, Wang Jun, the inquisitive and noisy one, immediately beelines for Shen Lifen, his favourite. While Wang Bai, the gentle and loving one, is all about granny Wang Yanyu. Wang Kai, the most serious one of the lot, is neutral, when it comes to his grandmothers. His grandfathers' fascinate him more, and so he walks on over to his mother, content to chat with her.
The wide grins on the grandmothers' faces, as they entertain the little boys, tells Yue that they have been appeased. The Lian situation has been diffused...for now. Thank goodness she has enough kids to go around.
Dylan sits at the table carrying his baby girl, looking up from time to time, to glance at Yue. He never gets tired of looking at her, he thinks. He kisses Lian's cute little button nose and she smiles up at him. The same smile that Yue has. This melts his heart even further.
