Dylan sees nothing, as he looks out the train window. He has been travelling for 6 hours now and he has another 6 to go before he arrives in Leshan. The 2nd class compartment is crowded with people and their kids, traveling to their various destinations. He thinks back to the train journey to Shanghai, almost 3 years ago. It was his first time ever leaving the Sichuan province, and he remembers feeling so excited, to go a new part of the country, to see new things, and to try earn more money. It seems like a life time ago.
The last 7 months have changed him, more than he ever thought possible. Yue....Yue has made his world bigger....Yue has poured endless love into him... Yue has been the guiding light, leading the way.... Yue has been everything his dreams are made of, his comforter, his cheerleader, his pleasure giver, his caretaker, his protector, his other half.
He takes a deep breath and closes his eyes, as the pain washes over him. All he can see is Yue's face... her big brown deep eyes... her alluring moles...her soft lips, her heart shaped nose. He doesn't know what life looks like without Yue... the idea of not knowing when he will next see her, is killing him. If he wasn't on a train full of people, he would be screaming his head off.
He recalls his earlier conversation with Xi Ze.
Flashback
'What are you going to do?' Asks a worried Xi Ze.
He has just finished cleaning Dylan's wounds. Seeing Dylan like this, is breaking his heart.
'I have to leave Shanghai. I'm going to head back to Leshan for a bit.'
'What about Yue?'
Dylan is silent, not knowing what to say. Xi Ze persists.
'She loves you Dylan. She loves you like I've never seen before. Are you just going to leave her like that?'
Tears start to stream down Dylan's face.
'I don't have a choice...Mrs. Shen threatened my parents. They've worked hard all their lives... it may not seem like much, but they are proud of their work at the factory, and at the night market. There was never a day that I went hungry, or cold, or without their love. I can't let anything bad happen to them, because of me. I'm in no position to take on Mrs. Shen. She is too powerful right now. I have nothing.'
'Are you just going to leave without saying goodbye? She will want to look for you.'
'You have to discourage her...I mean it Xi Ze. She cannot know where I am, otherwise I will not have the strength to turn her away. I'm going to change my phone number, so that she cannot get a hold of me. I will give you my new one, when I get it. Don't tell her my address okay, please I'm begging you!'
'I will do my best Dylan, but she is tenacious, especially when it comes to you. She won't just automatically listen to me.'
'You are right, you are right....do you have a pen and a paper? I will write her a letter.'
