Taylor Swan is 15 years old. She never had a forever home. She was always in the foster care system. She got sent to live in a small town called Storybrooke, Maine with a man who had a daughter named Grace. "Great." She thought as she was in the car with her social worker, Maria. "Just another man who wants money." She thought. Maria was trying to talk to Taylor, but she had her headphones in. "Taylor!" Maria yelled as Taylor jumped in her seat and ripped out the headphones. "Yeah? Sorry. I couldn't hear you." She said. "I know." Maria smirked. "We're almost there." She said as Taylor nodded and continued staring out the window. "Holy shit." Taylor said as they pulled up at a big house. "We're here." Maria grinned. "So, if he has this big house, why would he want money?" Taylor said as she ran to catch up to Maria. "Maybe he doesn't want money. He wants to adopt, Ya know." Maria said. Taylor was about to respond as she smacked into someone and fell over, dropping her book bag on the ground. Her head smacked against the concrete as she scrunched her face up in pain. "Oh my gosh. I'm so sorry! I wasn't paying attention." A blonde woman said as she and Maria ran over to check on Taylor. "Are you okay?!" The blonde yelled at Taylor.
*Taylor's POV*
"Ow" I thought as my head smacked against the concrete. "Are you okay?!" A blonde woman said as she ran towards me, Maria close behind. "Yeah, I'm fine." I said as I sat up and rubbed my head. Who is this blonde woman? Why does she look so familiar? Why is she staring at me? "Woah. You guys kinda look alike." Maria stammered out. "Kinda? She looks like she could be a twin almost." The blonde stated. "I'm Emma." She said as she helped me up. "Emma Swan." She said as she put out her hand to shake Maria's. "Your last name is Swan?" I said. What if she's the mother who gave me away. "Yeah. What's yours?" She said as she looked at me. "Sw-swan." I said and stuttered. "Oh- sorry I gotta take this." Emma said as she got cut off by her phone ringing. "Yeah, babe. I'll be right there." She said and looked back at us. "Sorry that was my girlfriend, Regina." She said to me. "I gotta go. See you around. Sorry about running into you." She said as she handed me my backpack. "Thanks. It's fine." I said to her. "So. Are you weirded out by the last name too?" I said and looked at Maria. "Nah, probably just a coincidence." She said to me. "Yeah. Probably." I said as we walked to the front door. Still thinking about Emma. "Good afternoon. You must be Taylor." A mans voice brought me out of my trance. "Uh, yeah. I'm Taylor. Taylor Swan." I said. "I'm Jefferson. This is my daughter Grace." He said and pointed to his daughter who didn't seem much younger than me. "But, here, They know me as the mad hatter." He said and winked at Maria. Is this guy serious? "Well, let's get your stuff out of her car and we'll show you to your rooms." He said to me. "Rooms?" I asked. "Yeah. The house is so big, you can have a bedroom and an extra room for whatever." He said as my eyes lit up. He just smiled at me. "Grace, why don't you take Taylor up to her bedroom and show her her extra room. I'll help Maria get her stuff." He said as the little girl looked at me. "Okay daddy." she said and grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the steps. We walked up the stairs and she opened a set of double doors. "This is your room. See? It's right across from my room!" She said and pointed across the hall. "Awesome." I said and smiled at her. I turned and looked into my new room. It was huge. It had hardwood floors and a big blue carpet in the middle of the floor. It had a king sized bed with a blue set of sheets and comforter on the back wall. There was a small nightstand on each side of the bed and a lamp. There was a flat screen tv on a tv stand on the side of the room. There was a big collection of movies and tv shows in a cabinet under the tv. "Woah." I said. "Right? And you haven't even seen your closet." Jefferson said as he walked into the room, towards another set of double doors. He opened them and revealed a big walk in closet, full of clothes. "Oh my gosh." I said and ran towards Jefferson. "Thank you." I said and wrapped him in a big hug. "You're welcome." He said and hugged me back. "Okay Taylor. All your stuff is out of my car. Call me if you need anything. I'm only a few hours away. I'll miss you kiddo." She said and hugged me. "I'll miss you too." I said and started crying. Maria was my only friend. Hopefully that would change. "So, Taylor. Let's talk. Get settled in and then come down to the family room." Jefferson said. "okay. Hey Grace, why don't you help me unpack my stuff." I said to her. "Okay!" She yelled happily and plopped on my bed. "Is this your guitar?" she said and picked up my light brown guitar. "Yep. I learned how to play in one of the foster homes I was in." I said and smiled at the little girl. I was unpacked within an hour, seeing as I didn't have much stuff. "Let's go see what your dad wanted to talk about. Shall we?" I said as Grace jumped on my back. I gave her a piggy back ride towards the stairs when she jumped off and held my hand and walked beside me. "He's your dad now too." she said and looked at me. I just smiled at her. We sat down on the couch and Jefferson looked at us and smiled. "So... Taylor.. Maria told me you had been in several abusive homes before..." oh man. I don't wanna talk about this. I just squeezed my eyes shut. "I wanted to let you know, we aren't going to hurt you. We are your family now." He smiled at me and I started crying and hugged him. "Thank you." I said.
