*Regina's POV*
Emma and I woke up in the middle of the night. Neither of us could get back to sleep. "Emma?" I asked quietly. Emma turned slightly and we were now facing each other. She smiled at me. "Yeah?" Emma asked quietly. "I can't sleep." I said. She nodded. "Let's talk." Emma said. I nodded in agreement. "Emma can I ask you something?" I said. Emma nodded. "Em, have you ever been in love? You know, before we met?" I asked, in fear of the answer. Emma's eyes narrowed and her smile faded into a frown. "I was in love. But I wasn't loved back." Emma said. *flashback in Emma's POV* So, I ran away from my foster home yesterday. I'm almost 14 now. I'm starting to get hungry. I walked towards a grocery store and walked around the aisles. I grabbed a box of pop tarts and looked at it. I looked around to make sure no one was watching me. There was a girl who was looking at me. She was pretty. She had brown hair. She smirked at me and walked away. I put the box of pop tarts in my jacket and held them there. Trying not to look obvious. "Hey!" A cashier said and looked at me. I looked back and the brunettes girl was approaching me with a buggy. "Hey, there you are. I've been looking all over for you. Dads outside waiting." She said and looked at me. I looked at her and she made a face, almost like she was saying 'just go with it.' I nodded and we walked to the cash register. She had also bought some other food and some sodas. She paid and we walked out. "Hey, thanks." I said. She nodded. "I'm Lily." She said. I smiled. "Emma." I said. Then a man in a car approached us. "Hey!" He shouted. "Shit, run!" Lily said and we took off. The man tried to follow, but after cutting into a few ally's, we lost him. We were both laughing. We had run to the lake. "Hey, come on. I know a place we can stay for a while. The owners don't come around in these months." Lily said and looked at me. I nodded and we walked towards a house. It was pretty big. She took a rock and busted one of the small windows at the front door. She reached in and unlocked the door, then disabled the alarm. "Simple password. Too easy." She said. I smiled. She smiled back. Her smile was just... Gorgeous. Much like her. But, she'd never like me back. No way. *Time jump* it's been almost a month now. Just me and Lily. We play video games, we watch movies. It's always fun. "Hey, what's that on your wrist?" I asked her and looked at the scar, shaped like a star. She smiled. "I was born with it." She said. I nodded. She took a marker and drew a star on my wrist. "Now you have one too." She said and smiled at me. I nodded. "Cool." I said with a smile. "Emma... I need to talk to you." She said and looked at me. I nodded. "Emma... I.." She started but was interrupted by the front door being slung open. "Lilian!" The man screamed and looked at her. "Who are you...?" I said and looked at him. "I'm her father." He said. I looked at her in utter shock. "You... Lied to me?" I said. She frowned. "You told me that you were in the foster system and that you had run away like me!" I said. She looked at the ground. "I'm sorry..." She started. "No, you have a family. And you're taking it for granted. Go home." I said, tears in my eyes. I licked my thumb and wiped the star she had drawn off. She looked at me and tears flowed from her eyes. I ran out of the house and didn't stop. "But Emma! I love you!" She shouted. I just kept running and running. Then, I had no other choice. I had to go back to that damned foster home. I was so happy with Lily. And she fucking lied to me the entire time. Damn it. I love her! How could she? She probably doesn't even actually love me. I returned to the foster home and knocked lightly on the door. "Emma!" The woman said and hugged me. Not this bull shit again. *End flashback.*
*Regina's POV*
"And I never saw her again." Emma said, after explaining. "Emma?" I asked quietly. She looked at me. "You know I actually love you... Right? I would never lie to you." I said. She nodded. "I love you Regina." She said and grabbed onto me, tight. I wrapped her in my arms and held her close to me. She was sobbing into my chest. "Shh. I've got you." I said. "I love you." I said. "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine." I started singing to her. She smiled weakly. "You make me happy, when skies are grey. You'll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away." I sang. She smiled and kissed me lightly. "I love you." she said. I nodded. We fell asleep soon after. We woke up around 9:15 the next morning. "Good morning." Emma said and kissed my forehead. I smiled. I got up and brushed my teeth, then walked to the closet. "Do we have work today?" Emma shouted. "No, Nick and Taylor have a soccer game." I shouted back. I put on jeans and a long sleeve flannel shirt, then tan riding boots. Emma put on jeans and a grey Boston hoodie. Then put on a pair of brown Uggs. She put her hair in a ponytail and then went and brushed her teeth. I walked to Taylor's room. The door was opened. She was wearing her white Nike dri-fit jersey. Her black soccer shorts. She had on her shin guards and ankle guards and was putting on tie-dye socks. She pulled on her white cleats that had a neon blue nike check on them. She had several pairs of cleats. They all had her number embroidered in them. She was pretty badass when it came to soccer. She was offered scholarships for college, but turned them all down. She wanted to stay here. Nick had done the same. They were both really good at soccer. "Hello, number 18." I said and smiled. She was in the middle of pulling her hair into a ponytail. She smiled at me. "You nervous?" I asked. She shook her head. "Nah, first game of the season is always an easy one." She said. I smiled. "I'm proud of you. You're doing so good." I said. She smiled at me. "Thanks mom." She said and hugged me. "We need to leave in like 5 minutes." Taylor said and ran down the stairs, her cleats clicking on every step. "Em, you ready?" I asked. She nodded and walked out of Roland's room holding him. "Morning babe." I said and he smiled at me. He held his arms out to me and Emma handed him off to me. I rested him on my hip and he wrapped his small arms around me. I smiled and walked downstairs to see Taylor leaning against the door. "Nick's already there." Taylor said. I nodded. She was holding 2 bottles of water. She ran to the car and got in. Guess we're taking my car. I put Ro in his car seat and buckled up. Emma got in the drivers seat and I smiled at her. "Henry not going?" Taylor asked. I shook my head. "He has the flu now." I said. Taylor nodded. We drove to the soccer field and Taylor ran out of the car and met Nick. He kissed her on the cheek and then they went to meet with the coach. Emma, Roland and I walked to the bleachers and sat with the other parents. "Morning your majesties." Emily said. We smiled at her. Her daughter plays on Taylor's team. We sat on the top row. The game started about 20 minutes later. The other team they were playing was really rough. They had already gotten 5 fouls and it was only the second quarter. Halfway through the second quarter, Taylor got pushed down. Someone ran over her knee and she screamed in pain. The game had come to a pause. Nick ran over to her and so did the coach. Everyone else got down on one knee. Emma and I ran down the bleachers and onto the field. Roland stayed sitting. "Taylor!" Emma shouted. "I can't stand up!" Taylor shouted back, tears pouring down her face. "Okay, just calm down. We're getting some ice." The coach said. "Agh, it really fucking hurts!" Taylor shouted. "Shh, it's okay babe." Nick said and kneeled beside her. He was holding her hand. The coach got the assistant coach to get ice and he brought it over. The coach started looking at her knee. "I think you need to go to the doctor." He said. "What? No! The game!" Taylor shouted back. "Taylor, you can't stand up. You need to go to the doctor." The assistant coach said. She rolled her eyes. Nick picked her up bridal style and everyone clapped, then stood up. "Nick, where are you going?" The coach asked. "I'm going with them." He said back. The coach pulled 2 substitutes and the game continued. Roland ran down to us and we all walked to the car. Roland, Nick and Taylor got in the back seat. Emma drove to the hospital. We got there and Nick carried her in. I walked in behind them. Emma was going to take Roland to Snows house. The nurse took Taylor to a room and began checking her vitals. Nick and I followed. "How would you rate your pain. 1-10." The nurse asked. "9" Taylor said, tears streaming down her face. Taylor was taken back for x-Rays. Nick and I were waiting patiently. They were still both wearing their soccer uniforms. Doc came out of her room and looked at us. "She has a shattered knee cap and a shredded tendon." He said. The nurse walked out. "She's a fighter. She rated her pain a 9 when it was actually a 10." The nurse said. "She's going to need a total reconstructive surgery." Doc said. I looked at him and nodded. "She may never play soccer again." He said. "What?!" Nick and I both said. He nodded. "It depends on how well she recovers. We want to do the surgery today." He said. I nodded. Nick and I sat in the waiting room and waited. 8 hours later Doc came out. "The surgery was a success. We were able to repair the tendon. Her knee cap was beyond repair, so we had to replace it with a metal plate. She will be in a lot of pain for a while. But we are going to prescribe her a pain killer." He said. I nodded. Nick and I stood up. "When can we see her?" He asked. "You can see her now." Doc said and led us to her room. They had a knee brace on that went all the way up and down her leg. She was staring out the window. "Hey baby." Nick said and walked over to her. "This isn't fair." Was all she said. "Honey, it will get better." I said. "No it won't. I can't play soccer for the rest of the season. And I might never be able to play again. Soccer is my life." Taylor said, tears pouring down her cheeks. Nick went over and held her hand. "Shh. It's okay. You are a fighter. You will play soccer again. Don't worry." He said and kissed her forehead. She nodded. "I love you." Taylor whispered. "I love you too." He said back. "Ready to go home?" Doc asked. She nodded. She stood up, with the help of her crutches. "Shit." She whispered and scrunched her face in pain. She wasn't supposed to put weight on her knee. She didn't mean to. We walked out. Taylor was still wearing her soccer uniform. So was Nick. Emma was waiting outside. "How'd the surgery go?" Emma asked. "It was a success." Nick said. Emma nodded. We all walked to the car. It was her right knee. So, she was going to have a hard time. But she would make it through. She was going to sleep on the couch in the living room until she could walk again. "This sucks." Taylor said as we walked in the house. Nick followed and we followed behind him. Taylor got out her phone. "Hello?" She said. Then put it on speaker. "Hey Taylor. How's the knee?" It was her coach. "Well, I shattered it and shredded a tendon." Taylor said back. "They had to do an emergency reconstructive surgery. My tendon was repaired but the knee cap was beyond repair. They had to replace it with a metal plate." Taylor said. "Damn." Her coach said. "So I'm out for the rest of the season." Taylor said. "Well, still come to practices and games. Even if you can't play." The coach said. "Oh I will." Taylor replied. "We won 64 to 8." He said. "Awesome." Taylor responded. "See you on Thursday coach." Taylor said and hung up. She sat on the couch and propped her leg up. "This sucks." Taylor said again. "You will play again Taylor." Emma said. Taylor nodded. This was going to be hard on her. "Mom? Can you get me a water?" She asked me. I nodded and grabbed a bottle of water out of the fridge. I walked back to the living room and handed the water to her. She smiled weakly. "Thanks." She said. I nodded. "So, are you in pain?" Nick asked and looked at her. She shook her head. "Guess the meds are working." She said. Nick nodded. "Nick, do you want to stay for dinner?" I asked him. "Sure. Thanks." He said. I nodded. It was almost 7 pm now. It had been a long day. With Taylor's surgery and Henry having the flu. It was a mess. Emma and I went upstairs, to give Nick and Taylor a little privacy. "So..." I said once Emma had shut the door. "So." She said. "What should we talk about?" I asked. "Let's talk about us." Emma said. I nodded and looked at her. We sat down in the bed and leaned against the headboard. Emma put her arm around my shoulders and I leaned into her. "So, what about us?" I asked. "We need to go on a date night. We haven't had very much 'us' time lately and I miss just spending time with you. I love the kids. But, I miss when it was just you,me and Henry." Emma said. I nodded. "I miss that too. But, I miss us more." I said. "What do you mean?" Emma asked. "I mean, I miss just spending time with you. Just you and me in this house when we would send Henry to stay with Snow and Charming. I miss it. A lot. I miss going to bed late and sleeping in on the weekends. I miss just holding you." I said. Emma nodded. "Me too." She said and held me tight. I wrapped my arms around her waist and she tightened her arms around my shoulders. "But, I love the kids." I said. Emma nodded. "Me too." she said, then kissed my forehead. We ordered pizzas for the kids and just stayed in bed. We watched movies until we fell asleep around 1 am. Just like the old days. I woke up in the middle of the night with a strange feeling in my chest. I was nervous. But, I don't know why. Something was wrong. I looked at Emma and checked on her and she was fine. I quietly and slowly got up. Careful not to wake Emma. I stood up and looked around. It's 3 am. I was kinda scared, to be honest. I don't ever get scared unless it's serious. I grabbed my phone and turned the lamp on in our room. Emma was still sleeping peacefully. I turned the hall light on. I opened Roland's door quietly and saw him sleeping. His tv was on and Bubble Guppies was playing. He had a lamp on. I smiled. I left the door open a crack and went to Henry's room. I opened his door. His tv was on. He was asleep. I pulled his door shut and walked down the stairs. Taylor and Nick were asleep on the couch. I walked up the stairs and I felt like I needed to check Taylor's room. I slowly walked to her room and put my hand on the door knob. I slowly opened it. "Couldn't sleep dear?" I heard my mother say. I froze. "But..." I said. "That's no way to greet your mother." She said. "Maybe you should come with me." My mother said as she stood up and walked towards me. I couldn't move. Why couldn't I move. "Don't touch me." I said. She gave an evil chuckle and walked closer to me. "How are you here." I spit. "My dear friend Rumplestiltskin." She said and I was shocked. She plunged her hand in my chest and I screamed. "No one can hear your screams." She said. "Why can't I get your fucking heart?!" My mom said. I smiled evilly. "True love bitch!" I said and plunged my hand deep in her chest. I latched onto her heart and pulled it out. She screamed and I looked at her. "I loved you mother. I did. And you had me kill myself. You tortured me. But, Emma. I will not let you hurt MY Emma. You will not! Goodbye mother!" I shouted and crushed her heart. Her body fell to the ground and I began crying. "I love you mother." I whispered and fell down beside her. Emma walked in the hall and put an arm around me. I stood up and hugged her. "I love you." I whispered. "I love you." Emma said back. "So I'm yours?" Emma said. I chuckled and nodded. "You're mine too babe. Let's get you back to bed." Emma said and kissed my forehead. I poofed my mothers body away and then we went back to our room. Emma and I got in bed and cuddled together. I fell asleep almost instantly. But it was because MY Emma was holding me close.
