Nine years ago, I was nearly killed by a girl named Wendy.

She was jealous of me and attempted to drown me. Luckily, I was saved by mermaids who gave her a taste of her own medicine. Ever since that day, my guardian, Peter Pan, hadn't brought any more girls to the island.

Or, at least, he didn't for a long time. Then, one day, I came back to camp carrying firewood and dropped it in surprise when I saw one standing by the fire in front of Peter.

The girl was gorgeous. She had flaming red hair that fell just below her shoulders, brown eyes that looked like melted chocolate, and a smile that radiated joy. If I had to guess, she looked about eighteen- the same age as Peter.

He was laughing at something she said and his eyes moved away from her for a moment to spot me. Grinning, he beckoned me over.

I approached cautiously. Despite being older and stronger than I was when I was a child (Peter had used his magic to allow me to age until I was thirteen, then he stopped), I was very wary.

"Y/N, love, I'd like you to meet Samantha," He said. "She's brand new to Neverland. Samantha, this is Y/N."

"You look like the youngest person here," She commented. "Are you Peter's younger sibling?"

I shook my head. "No, he's more like my dad."

Her eyebrows shot up. "Oh. That's nice."

"Not biologically," Peter said hastily. "Y/N's parents weren't good people, so I decided to adopt this little troublemaker."

"I'm not a troublemaker," I protested.

He laughed. "You're right, I'm just teasing you."

"Well, that's lovely," Samantha said. "I hope we can be friends, yeah?"

"We'll see."

Peter shot me a look and then chuckled awkwardly. "Y/N's just joking. Come on, I'll show you around."

He took her by the arm and led her out of camp. Abruptly, I felt hands on my shoulders. I startled and turned around to see Mathew, one of the lost boys.

"Awww, is Y/N jealous?"

"Shut up, Mathew."

"I'm kidding, I'm kidding!" He said, holding up his hands in surrender and laughing.

I rolled my eyes. "Uh-huh. I'm not jealous. I just... don't trust her."

Jack, another lost boy, joined the conversation, rubbing my back comfortingly. "That's understandable, Y/N. After what happened with Wendy, I'd be suspicious of random girls showing up on Neverland, too."

"Well, I think it was overboard for Pan to ban other girls for so long. And kind of sexist. Just because Wendy was a bully and a girl, doesn't mean all girls are bullies." Mathew declared.

"Fair, but Y/N almost died. I'd say that if keeping them away keeps Y/N alive, it's worth it."

I waved it off. "Don't worry about it. He's allowed to have girlfriends and stuff. It doesn't mean he loves me less if he cares about her, too. Besides, maybe she's nice."

It didn't take more than a week to determine that she was not nice.

She liked to insult me a lot to make herself feel powerful. Particularly, she liked to poke fun at my weight. At first, I was going to tell Peter, but I realized that I needed to grow up and deal with it. So she was a bitch. So what? I'd just ignore her. She wasn't even dating Peter, anyway.
