“Okay, can we play that back?” Davey asked me through the glass. I nodded, readjusting the soundproof earphones around my head. The music suddenly started over. “This thing, between you and me, is oveeer,” I sang into the studio’s recording microphone. “Life lessons were learned, so call me when you are sobeeer. I live for action, but this is just too much for me. I’m gone. I’m gone. You and I are history.”
I almost laughed at the irony. I was singing a song about a failing relationship when I was head over heels for Colson, and as far as I was concerned, we would be together for quite a while. I finished the song, earning an applause from the studio’s crew and Davey himself. “Riley, hun, that was amaaazing!” Davey praised. I blushed, looking down. Chris was sitting next to Davey, a grin plastered on his gorgeous face. His eye was still a bit swollen from a few days before, but besides that he looked pretty good.
“Okay everyone, take five. We will add Chris’s part in when we get back.” Nelson, the sound manager told us all. I exited the sound booth and made my way over to Chris. He gave me a high-five, pulling me into a bear hug. “This song is gonna top the charts, Riles.” I smiled. “Well duh! You’re in it.” I said, giving him a crazy look. He stuck out his tongue at my compliment and pushed me aside so that he could take my seat. I tried to move him, but he seemed glued to the stool. “Christopher! Scooch your butt, bro!” I whined.
“Aw Riley, I’m sorry. How about we go downstairs and get some smoothies. My treat?” He batted his big brown eyes at me as I rolled my green ones. “Fine, but I’m getting the Jumbo shake since it’s the most expensive smoothie on the menu.” I turned on my heel and raced him to the Smoothie King down in the lobby. I got to the elevators first, so Chris was forced to the stairs. He was out of breath once he met me in line, since the studio was on the seventeenth floor. I giggled at his tired appearance and let him get in front of me. “Can I get a Strawberry Mango Jumbo shake. His treat.” I said to the cashier while pointing to Chris.
“I’ll get the same.” Chris said. He handed over a ten. I shook my head slowly as we made our way to the nearest table. “When are you going to learn that you cannot beat me?” I asked him as we took our seats. He took a sip of his shake and sighed. “I guess when I’m broke.” He admitted. I laughed. We were silent for a moment as we enjoyed our smoothies. “Do you have any plans tonight?” I asked Chris.
He nodded. “Yeah, I’m meeting up with Wiz and Wayne. Why?” He wondered. I shrugged nonchalantly. “Oh I dunno. I was just thinking, maybe you could hang out with Colson and I tonight?” I put on my puppy dog face. An awkward silence filled the space between us from the mention of Colson. “C’mon! He’s ready to forgive and forget.” I insisted. That was a lie. Colson was still furious, and I could tell Chris felt the same way.
“I’ll think about it.” was Chris’s response. It was better than Colson’s no. I knew they would both eventually come around. “So are you and Honey sorta dating?” I asked, changing the subject. I was dying to know. They had been texting non-stop and it was really cute. He laughed and shook his head, grateful for a new conversation.
“Nah, we are just good friends. I like someone else.” He explained. I raised an eyebrow. “Who? Chris I have to know.” I put a hand to my forehead and pretended to faint. “I’m dying here!” I joked. “It’s nothing. Forget about it.” He looked shyly to the ground. “Well you are gonna tell me later. We gotta get back to the studio.” I grabbed his arm and pulled him towards the elevators.
“Colson! Stop!” I giggled as he pushed the game controller out of my hand. He blocked my view, using his advantage to kill my character. “I won! You know what that means. Winners get a kiss.” He waggled his eyebrow and grinned. I smacked his arm. “Your right. Winners do get kisses,” I leaned in to meet his lips, putting my hand in the way at the last minute. “but Cheaters get the hand.” He groaned dramatically. “You’re killing me, babe.” He sighed.
I kissed him anyway, finding it hard to resist his full lips. “What’s your favorite thing about me?” I asked. “Don’t give me that ‘pretty and smart’ bull either.” I warned. He chuckled. “Um okay. Let’s see.” He looked at me with his baby blues. “The thing I love most about you is your smile. Every time you smile I swear I melt inside, as gay as that sounds. And you always give me that lopsided grin, the one that shows your dimples, that I can’t live without.” I couldn’t stop the smile inching across my face as he finished. I rested my forehead against his.
“The thing I love most about you are your eyes. Those blue things tell stories, and it always reminds me of how strong you are. Plus they are goddamn sexy.” I whispered. He batted his eyelashes. “Aww shucks.” He said with a southern accent. “Oh my gosh, shut up.” I said as I mashed my mouth to his. “God, you taste good.” He moaned against my lips.
“So do you.” I said, licking his bottom lip. I grabbed the edges of his shirt and pulled it over his head. I ran my hands over his chest, loving the feel of his skin against mine. He slid his hands under my shirt and roughly pulled it off. I sat in my lacy bra as he stared at me with lust. He reached for the buckle of his pants when I suddenly came to my senses.
“Colson, no.” He looked up with confusion. I brushed my bangs from my face and he moaned once more. “I’m so turned on right now.” He murmured. I shook my head furiously. “Colson, I’m still a virgin.” I blurted. I blushed from embarrassment, looking down to avoid his eyes. I couldn’t believe I had just told him that. I was such a loser. I grabbed my shirt and slipped it on quickly. “I’m gonna go.” I muttered, getting up from the couch. He grabbed my hand to stop me from leaving.
“Riley, I don’t give a fuck about you being a virgin. That actually makes you sexier, if that was even possible.” He rolled his eyes, giving me a shy smile. I gave him a peck on his lips, not meeting his eyes. “Dad wants me home by six.” I said softly. He dropped his hand from mine and I raced to the door. “Riley!” He called after me. I gave him a hesitant smile before escaping his hotel room.
“What just happened?” I asked myself once I was in the hallway. I pulled out my phone and dialed Callie’s number.
“Whaddup?” She answered. “Do you think I’m lame because I still have my virginity?” I questioned. Both Daphney and Callie had lost their V Cards last summer. Callie crunched on a potato chip. “No, not exactly. It’s kinda cute. You’re still so innocent. May I ask why?” She finished chewing and started up on another chip. I pressed the elevator button to go down. “Now isn’t the time to eat chips, Callista!” I screeched. “And the reason I asked was because, me and Colson almost did…it.” She stopped chewing completely.
“Did what?” She asked me. “You know!” I replied. She laughed. “Oh my gosh, Riley I swear you are like a kid at times. You guys almost had sex?” I got into the elevator and pushed the first floor. “Yeah. Then I ran out like an idiot.” I sighed.
I just hoped Colson wouldn’t think of me differently.
