Y/N's POV

"Would you like to just call in today Lieutenant?" Nines asked me that morning, "and take a break from the investigation?"
I lay on the couch, cuddling Buddy close, I nod. I assume that Nines will just go to work today without me, since he isn't supposed to stop and take a day off.
Much to my surprise though, the android took a seat next to me, "Don't you still have to work today?" I ask.

"I'm supposed to be working with you. You are my partner, I can't work without you." Nines tells me, and then examines his nails casually, as if it actually mattered.
"So, did you tell me I could rest so you could get out of work?" I ask, jokingly, I face him.
He looks at me too, "No. I know you're having trouble with yourself. And no human can work without recovery. And you must recover from the news about Megan, Alex and... yourself."

"I have to recover to myself?" I ask, confused. "Think of your father." Nines tells me, "He started drinking because of sorrow and stress. And if you keep being sorrowed and stressed, you will end up broken mentally." Nines explains to me.
"I get it." I say, "so, what should we do all day?" I ask, I rest my head on his shoulder, but in a friendly manner.

"Relax of course."

I nod and close my eyes, wondering if I could take a nap, but my body doesn't let sleep steal me away, so instead, I make more conversation.
"Nines... I'm still so sorry about what I said to you yesterday. I'm sorry I left you at the department. I'm sorry you had to deal with me when I was drunk last night." I mumbled.
"Don't worry Y/n, I know you're human. You have flaws, and I'm meant to deal with people worse than you." Nines tells me.

"Wait... did you just call me by my first name?" I ask, I sit up to face him. "I did." He answers, "What happened to "Lieutenant"?" I ask, mocking his emotionless android voice.
"I decided that calling you Y/n was easier." Nines says simply, I hum and rest my head back on his shoulder.
"I don't remember what happened after you came in last night Nines. I remember you feeling my forehead, and everything else is a blur." I tell him, "What happened after that?"

My head moves down to his chest, where I can hear his mechanical heart, I froze for a moment to listen, machinery pumping thirium, and a soft electrical hun, it sent vibrations into my head as I press my ear directly above it.
"I carried you to bed, I lay beside you and-"

His heart beat picked up in speed a bit, "And then what?" I ask curiously, "Well, Y/n. I'm just going to tell you, since you will eventually find out..."
"Yes...?" I ask, fearing what he might say, "I said to you last night, 'I think I love you', because I do. I really do. And I know human-android relationships are frowned upon. But who cares? You know?" He says, and then my heart rate picks up, I find myself griping his shirt, feeling tense.

This cannot simply be happening. He is an android. He can't love me, he is simply incapable. And even if he was a deviant, he wouldn't have any sort of romantic feelings to me. I'm just a dumb human.
"Please speak to me Y/N. Do you love me too?" He asks, I'm silent, I bite my lip, "How could you?" I ask instead, very silently.

"Wh-"

"How could you love me? I'm a disaster!" I say with a small laugh, "A beautiful disaster." Nines assures me, his arm goes around my back, moving some hair out of my face.

Even though the heart was practically mid-air, my cheeks were on fire and my palms felt sweaty, I still tried dissuading him.

"What exactly do you see?" I ask, Nines sighs and takes me by the shoulders, he shakes me lightly, "What do you not see in yourself?" He asks. I shrug, dumbfounded, "You're beautiful, kind, determined, sweet, completely trust worthy and, you know how to kick ass." He says. My chest swells with pride, "Yeah! I can kick ass." I claim, followed by a small laugh, "and you have a cute laugh. There are more pros than cons when it comes to you." Nines says.

"I guess I love you too then." I say sheepishly, "See? I knew you'd give in." He says, his hands go to either sides of my face, bringing me closer. His expression fades from a smile to a calculating, and thoughtful stare in my eyes.

He blinks a few times, still thoughtful, I hold eye contact, waiting for him to make the move. And he does.
He lays me down gently on my back into the soft couch, I sigh contently, like I'm being put to sleep by an angle. But then that angle plants his lips onto those of a mortal.
I respond immediately, my hands go the back of his neck, bringing him closer, he holds himself up with his hands, and then his elbows, deepening the kiss, making it as heated and as passionate as possible.

The moment is disrupted by the pitter patter of paws on the floor next to us, I pull myself away, turning my head to see Buddy with his favorite squeaky ball in his mouth.
"Now? Really?" I laugh, Nines reaches over and takes the ball, tossing it across the room, and turning back to me with a smile.
His soft lips go to my neck, skidding across my skin, reminding me of the other night, when it was just an act, but now that he's doing it out of love, I know I can feel warm without feeling disgusting and needy at the same time.

I hear Buddy making his way back over to us, he jumps onto Nines' back, forcing him down more, he grunts out of confusion, "Buddy!" I snap, the puppy barks and licks me, practically walking over my partner's head and face.
"I think he's trying to steal you from me." Nines says with a soft chuckle. "And he's done just that." I say playfully, sit up, taking Buddy into my arms, cuddling him.

He then rips away from my grasp to get his ball, and when he comes back, he sits in Nines' lap, his front paws on his chest.
"You want me to play catch?" He asks, the pup drops the ball, Nines hums and throws the ball across the room.
My smile soon fades, and a realization hit me, "No! Wait! Nines, you're a deviant! They're going to destroy you!" I say, I sit up, "No! Y/n! Calm down. You're the only person that knows." He assures me.

I begin to pace, "They'll find out Nines. And when they do, they'll take you away from me."

"I'm not going anywhere," he sits up, stopping me from pacing around feverishly, "and technically, I'm just a prototype, if I became a deviant, they can't do anything remember? Androids are free."
Goddammit, why does he always have to be right? I take a deep breath, calming down, I let out a sigh, "Ok, ok, I suppose you're right. But... I guess... I just have built up stress." I slump back down onto the couch and he joins me.

His head rests in the crook of my neck, feeling his breath against my neck, sends chills everywhere.
"I'm going to see Megan today Nines, I have to let her know I'm ok." I tell him, "Y/n, you have to rest." He insists.
"I've got rest already! Lets go!" I sit up, but he grabs my hand, pulling me back down, he pins me under him swiftly, before putting all his weight on top of me, "Get off." I say, annoyed.

"We both know who will win in this argument." Nines says.

"Me."

"No."

"Yes.

"Y/n, no. Just relax."

"No, relaxing is for losers."
