Y/n's POV

"Adam, sorry... I just can't." I told the officer, I held my hands out, palms facing him.

"Ok... so... no date?" He mumbled, "Sorry." I say, Adam had met a major friend-zone level of "sorry, go away I don't like you".

"Why not?" He asked, we were outside, it was after the shift and I was standing at my motorcycle, helmet in hand. I was waiting for Nines to finish registering evidence. But Adam caught me outside before he returned.

"Because, I don't like you like that Adam!" I snarled, "I've already told you 'no'!"

"Why can't you like me? I like you! I might not be the strongest or the most charming, but..." he begins, but I interrupt him, "Adam stop! I've already told you. No. I don't like you like that," I say, this situation mildly uncomfortable for me, me and Nines just confessed our feelings for each other, and I don't want to tell Adam that I already have a lover. Because then, he'd ask, "Who?" And I'd have to tell him.

I'm in love with an android.

"But I love you Y/n! And I will never give up on trying to win you over." Adam claims, he reaches for my hand, trying to make some helpless-in-love-teenager shit on me, but I snatch my hand away with a scowl.

"I'm not the one for you Adam, go find a girl who likes you too." I wave him off, as the doors of the department open and Nines steps out, his icy blue eyes go immediately to both of us.

"Officer... Lieutenant." Nines greets us as he walks up to me and Adam. "Let's go Nines," I tug on my partner's sleeve.
Adam gives us both a "look" and walks away, back into the department, probably to get his car keys and leave.
"What did he want?" Nines asks as he puts on my helmet, fastening the strap, "He asked me for my number, and a date." I roll my eyes, Nines tightens the strap gently. "You said 'no' right?" He asks, a hint of worry in his tone, "Of course. I just let him down as gently as possible, when he didn't take a hint, I had to practically yell at him."

"He might have to seriously back down, I'm not planning on letting you go so easily." He says, and sits behind me on the bike, his arms go around my waist, but his grip is stronger than normal.
"That's what Adam said. That he wouldn't let me go."
"He's going to have to." Nines growls.

"I can't tell if you're being serious." I laugh, staring up the bike, Nines rests his chin on my shoulder, turning his head and kissing me right on the jawline, lingering for a moment, "I am serious."

Time Skip- At Home

I swiped the key card across the scanner in the elevator as the doors closed, taking us steadily up to my apartment.

Me and Nines stand about a foot apart, the ding of the elevator signaling each floor sends me farther into a sort of suspense. Like the climax of a story, coming to it's end as the doors open.

We both step out of the elevator, and I reach for a light, but Nines takes my hand, holding it against the wall.

"Someone's here." He whispers, taking his hand away from mine.

"What-"

"Shh..."

He takes a step in front of me, we turn the corner of apartment, looking at the living room, and I can see the outline of a person sitting in a chair, in the dark, facing the window, and I can see a blinking LED at their temple, and in the android's hand, is a gun.

"This is a lovely apartment you have here Y/n." Says a familiar voice, I put my hand on my gun, I know that I knew that voice!

"I wouldn't make a move though, I didn't come to kill anyone."

The android turns his head toward us.

"You-" Nines begins, I push past him, I know the voice, my mind has finally clicked.

"Connor?"
