Percy POV
Mexico city. I'd never actually been before; it was a beautiful and vibrant city. Alleys were decorated with colour as mariachi bands played and stalls beckoned to tourists. Welcoming people tried to sell us various trinkets and souvenirs as we walked down the street. We'd all changed into civilian clothing to blend in; the Aztec hero was located to this area of the city but we'd not been able to discern the exact location. We'd found a 3000m radius but if our target was moving; we'd be in trouble.
"There!" Jason suddenly stepped forward and blocked my path with his hand as he pointed towards a lone figure walking eastward. It was a man about 6 foot 3 with brown hair and a bronze complexion. He wore what looked like normal clothes to the ordinary observer; but through the mist I could see elegant armour decorated with gems and vibrant colours. What most stood out though was the necklace of beads he wore.
I began to approach, but caught up in the moment of triumph in locating him; I momentarily forgot my allies were moving in step with me. The man saw us out of the corner of his eye and was clearly spooked. He touched his necklace and transformed into a kind of bird like creature I'd never seen before.
Piper quickly fired an arrow but it glanced harmlessly off its skin. I was hit with a sudden reminder of the curse of Achilles I'd once possessed. As he began to fly off, Calypso and Leo managed to snare his leg with a never-ending rope Leo had built years ago. They tried to pull him down but the creature continued to fly off. Leo and Calypso's legs were taken off the ground and they screamed for help. Jason flew into the air to help them while Piper tried to charmspeak it without much avail. "Jason take Leo's ropes and tie him up, I'll ground him" I barked out this order and watched as the creature began to fly further off with Piper and I running after it; Jason flying around while Leo and Hazel desperately held onto the rope. After a minute or so Jason yelled out he was done. I rushed forward and used my control of the earth to blast a geyser our from underneath me: shocking a few civilians as I flew upwards. What the mist made them see I'll never know. I rocketed towards the creature and managed to grab part of the rope and then let myself descend to the ground. I crashed down and didn't have long to feel the pain of impact as I was dragged along. It was like a scene straight out of a film, a giant bird dragging a helpless straggler along by a rope.
Luckily I was anything but helpless. I waited until I passed a building before swinging myself into it and planting my feet; allowing me to pull back with all my strength. The creature from the sky was pulled downwards and collapsed into the ground. Jason managed to catch Leo and Hazel while I saw Piper running towards us through my peripheral vision.
As the creature collapsed, it turned back into the man. He grabbed the rope and by the way it was shaking; it was clear the bindings wouldn't hold much longer.
"Calm down! We are on your side! I yelled as I began to explain what had happened and why we were here. The man introduced himself as Belado as we set him free from his bindings. "What kind of animal did you transform into?" Calypso asked. Before he could respond, I heard the familiar "zeowww" sound of a void opening and I turned to see Chaos step out.
"My lord," I asked, bowing my head. "What brings you here?"
"I'm afraid I have bad news. There's no way to sugarcoat this. There are no more powerful heroes.""What does that mean?!" I objected, while my companions looked around flustered.
"It means we are on our own." Chaos smiled grimly.
