Chapter 4: Lose Yourself
Stella's POV
•••••••••••••••••••••••••••••

Over the next few weeks, the football team began winning game after game. I was happy to see the team back on a winning streak after all they have been through so far.

Asher, JJ, and Spencer claim their winning streak is because I started helping out again, but I refuse to believe that. The boy's talent is what makes a difference on the field, not my observations that I relay to Coach Baker.

"All I'm saying is going strictly off fantasy points, touchdowns are worth more than interceptions," Asher stated to the group as the boys continued to play pool while Leila and I sat off to the side.

I was only hanging out with them today because JJ claimed we never spend any time together when I was literally over at his house last night. "Man, come on! A pick can change the game," Spencer replied back to Asher's comment.

"And a touchdown can win a game," Asher fired back simply.

"So wait," I said joining the conversation. "You think your five touchdowns in the last, what three games, are more important than Spencer's five picks?"

"I agree with her on this," Baker backed me up causing everyone to give us a weird glance.

"Stella Morgan, wait up," Baker yelled out to be after the team's second win in a row. I stopped walking and turned around to face him.

"What do you want, Baker? Yell at me again in front of everyone for being at one of your games?" I questioned him, shaking my head.

"I take back everything I said that night. I was upset and I took it out on you," Baker informed me before wiping the sweat off his forehead.

"You always seem to take it out on me when I'm the one who's done nothing wrong," I stated to him.

"Nothing wrong? You blamed me for your mom's campaign after countless of times that I've told you I didn't do it."

"How am I suppose to believe you when I found the photos on your computer?" I questioned him. "I trusted you and then the second I saw the folder on your computer, that's when I lost all trust in you."

"El, it wasn't me. I promise you that," Baker stated using my old nickname, which threw me off for a second.

"Do you know who did it then?"

"That's not the point here. The point that I was trying to make was that I am sorry. I really miss you, El."

"So you know and won't tell me?" I questioned scoffing. "Just forget it. I can't right now."

"El, just let me explain my actions the other day," Baker said, grabbing my arm and forcing me to turn back around towards him.

"What is there to explain? You threw Spencer under the bus and then drove that bus straight into me," I snapped at him.

"When I saw my dad congratulate Spencer first and not me, I guess it just hit me harder than I thought. It sounds selfish, but I wanted to make my dad proud and- and I finally thought I did that but he went to Spencer first," Baker ranted.

"Baker, you know your dad loves you a lot and he's proud of you, even when he doesn't show it, right?" I questioned him after I took a deep breath and let out a small sigh.

"Yeah, I guess," Baker muttered, shaking his head slightly.

"I get where you're coming from. You know how my mom is. I understand that you were hurt when you saw Spencer with your dad, but telling that kid the truth wasn't cool. Neither was yelling at me when I was just trying to pass by you since I didn't know whether or not I should congratulate you because of the break up."
