Three weeks later...
***
I wake up in Giovanni's bed again, but it doesn't bother me like it did at first. I had been willingly coming to bed in here every night for a couple of weeks now. I lay there for a while hoping to go back to sleep but I gave up after about ten minutes. I rolled out of bed and shuffled into the bathroom to get ready for the day. When I left the bathroom again, Giovanni was sitting on the bed smiling up at me like a little kid.
"What did you do?" I look around the room to see if there is something I was missing.
"Why do you think I did something? Can't I just be happy right now?" I folded my arms across my chest as I waited for him to answer honestly. "...Okay you caught me, but I didn't do anything. I was just coming to ask you a very important question." He was practically bouncing off the walls by the time he got done speaking.
"Well, are you going to spit it out today or what?"
"I want you to come with me to meet my family! Not right now, but a month from now. Is that enough time? I just found out they were home but I thought you needed some more time to adjust. That and I haven't even began to show you anything about me or my kind."
"Whoa, slow your roll! Why wouldn't a month be enough? What do you mean your 'kind', like the gang side? I don't want anything to do with all that so you don't have to explain any of that." He had been telling me all about his family, and how they couldn't wait to meet me. To be honest, I felt like I already knew them.
"So wait, you want to go?"
"Sure, I can't wait to meet your mom; I feel like she and I will get along great!" Giovanni had a huge grin on his face as he wrapped me in a tight hug. His body was warm and his hug was so tight I wanted to stay there forever. I don't know very many people who give good hugs, but Giovanni just got put on that list.
"I do need to talk to you about some things though, and no, not just about the mafia stuff." He put emphasis on mafia trying to correct me again. He lead me over to the bed and sat us down on the edge of it before muttering to himself for a minute. Finally he started talking to me instead of his imaginary friend.
"okay so, when I was younger.... no, I'll tell you that later. Okay, so I've told you before, I'm the don of the Sicilian mafia, and that I was a vampire. Well, seeing as how you were much calmer than I thought you would have been after I told you that, I thought maybe now would be a good time to go over a few things with you." He paused and watched me for a moment before continuing. "Just because you don't want anything to do with the business, doesn't change the fact that you're involved now because of me. You need to know things about it but for now all you need to know is, don't talk about it with anyone unless they bring it up."
"That's it?" I thought he was going to tell me important stuff, like where they keep all the super cool spy type stuff... if they even use that stuff? I'll have to ask him about that later.
"Yes, please stop interrupting. So the vampire thing is what I really wanted to talk about. You know the basics already which is pretty much just that all the theories that you humans have made up are false. There are some basic truths though, we do actually drink human blood to survive but we don't go into some weird frenzy every time we are around humans."
"Obviously." I muttered under my breath but apparently he still heard me. He didn't say anything but he gave me a glare letting me know he wasn't enjoying my sarcasm.
"For some who don't feed as often, it is hard to control themselves when they smell it. My parents are like this. I feed every other day in smaller amounts, they only feed once a week. None of us like hurting humans but it is the only way to survive. While we are there though, try not to stray from me very far. Their servants feed even less than my parents. They will all have a difficult time being in the same house as you. " The excitement I previously had was slowly fizzling out with each word as he kept talking about me having to be careful around them. When he finished his little speech, I was finally allowed to talk again.
