News reports this morning indicate that last night’s bomb was planted by an anti-government group in protest of alleged corruption by politicians during the preparations for the Games. It seems to be an isolated incident but we are all rattled enough to proceed with caution.
Cory gets the go-ahead from Dave to head back to his own condo and attend practice. He says good-bye to my mom who is warming to him. She actually gives him a hug.
I make up some excuse that I’d like some fresh air. I walk him out.
Outside it’s a nicer day than yesterday. “Looks like the weather’s going to be good on the mountain today,” I say.
“Anything will be better than yesterday,” he laments.
We walk thru the Village, both of us wondering where to go from here.
Cory pulls me into an alley and caresses my face, his eyes questioning if I’m real. He kisses me passionately. I note an urgency and anxiousness to his movements. I grab his hand so he knows I’m feeling the same strong feelings that he has. We take a breath. He puts his forehead on mine.
“Where did you come from?” he whispers and kisses me with such longing. I can feel the pain he’s been dealing with and I desperately want to wipe it all away.
He pulls me close. “I don’t want to let you go.” I squeeze him hard and pull back from his embrace.
“We should go. We both have a long day,” I say. “I don’t suppose you’d like to come to my team competition tonight?”
“I thought you’d never ask,” he teases.
“I’ll leave a ticket for you under your door,” I say. “Have a good day.” We kiss and start our day forever connected.
