Steven laid on his bed, staring up at the ceiling. His room was a huge mess. He still had not gotten over Connie rejecting his proposal. "How could I have been so stupid?" Steven asked himself, running his fingers through his curls. This usually calms him down, but was not effective since his skin still glowed pink with stress. He thought about what Connie's mom had said to him, about how all these traumatizing experiences that stuck with him are now causing him to react in an unhealthy way. " 'Gem cortisol,' " Steven mumbled. "that's bullcrap." To be honest though, Steven did appreciate talking to his dad, but he did not wish to admit it. It would make him seem weak. All of a sudden, Steven felt a sharp pain in his stomach. He limped forward as his gem started to glow brightly. Steven gritted his teeth in pain. Then the glow began to fade, and the pain started to subside. "What was that?" Steven questioned, lifting up his shirt to examine his gem. Nothing seemed wrong, so he brushed the whole ordeal off. "It's probably some sort of cramp." Steven assured himself. "I'm sure everything is just fine. Maybe some more ice cream will help." He said as he made his way downstairs.
As he walked down, he glanced over at Garnet, who was sitting on the couch. Garnet looked over at Steven, causing him to whip his head back around in the opposite direction. He was still mad at Ruby and Sapphire for leading him to look like a fool in front of his best friend and crush. "Good Afternoon." Garnet calmly said. Steven looked over before turning his face back to the fridge. Steven mumbled something as he opened the fridge door. "Don't get mad at me Steven," Garnet began. Here we go with another one of her lectures, Steven thought as he rolled his eyes. "I understand that you are upset with Ruby and Sapphire, but you should have never listened to them. They may be me, but that does not mean that they are me. They have their own separate lives, while I am my own person. Ruby and Sapphire love each other very much, but they do not yet fully understand human concepts. Even though there isn't a possible future where you don't propose to Connie, you don't need to jump to it right away. You have plenty of time." Garnet explained. Steven was not having any of this. She's just trying to find excuses now, Steven thought, clearly annoyed. After all, Ruby and Sapphire did still give him idiotic advice. Even worse, he believed it! Steven could not keep the rage inside him anymore. Steven spun around. "DO I LOOK LIKE I CARE?! DO I REALLY LOOK LIKE I GIVE A--" Steven fumed before being cut off. "STEVEN! Please control yourself!" Garnet scolded, walking over to Steven. "I don't want you throwing these kinds of temper tantrums!" Steven clenched his fists in frustration. "WEEELLL EXCUSE ME!" Steven mocked. "GARNET." Garnet was losing her patience, and Steven had already lost his. "Stop this reckless behavior Steven! You are acting like a child!" Garnet responded, agitated by Steven's reaction. "OH! SO NOW YOU'RE GETTING MAD AT ME?! ITS NOT MY FAULT RUBY AND SAPPHIRE ONLY HAVE HALF A BRAIN CELL! IT'S NOT MY FAULT THEY MADE ME LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT! THIS IS ALL THEIR FAULT! THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT!!" Steven screamed at the top of his lungs, sending beams of pink energy throughout the room, shattering glass and making the ground shake. Garnet lost balance and fell to the floor. Steven gasped for breath as he glared at Garnet. Garnet shook with fear as she pointed to Steven's face."S-Steven... your eyes.. they're.." Garnet stuttered, too stunned to form words properly. Steven's tone shifted from pure rage to worry. Steven ran to the bathroom and stood in front of the mirror. His pupils were shaped like diamonds... pink diamonds. Steven shrieked as he immediately began to splash water on his face. His heart was pounding as he looked up. They were still there. Just then, Steven felt that "cramp" again, shooting waves of pain in his stomach. Steven collapsed onto the cold tile floor in agony, a bright light radiating from his gemstone. Steven grasped his side in distress. The glow faded once again, leaving Steven lying on the ground. He pushed himself up and looked in the mirror for the second time, only this time, his eyes were back to normal. Steven was breathing heavily, scared of what he had just experienced.
Something was very off.
