Chapter 8~ Nowhere To Hide

     Steven directed the knife in Connie's direction. "STAY AWAY! I don't want to hurt you like I hurt everyone else!" he growled through gritted teeth. Connie was taken aback by these words. "What do you mean... everyone else?"she questioned suspiciously, taking a small step forward out of bravery. It was Steven! He couldn't possibly harm anyone right? Steven's mouth slowly curled into a twisted smile as he began to laugh maniacally. His eyes shifted to diamonds once again as they pierced through Connie's soul. "You really want to know?! OK then! I poofed all three of the Diamonds, I forced Spinel to stay in a fusion, BUT THAT DOESN'T MATTER!" Everyone in the room gasped in shock and horror. "Steven..." Amethyst started before being interrupted by Steven. "I DON'T YOU TO HELP ME! WANNA KNOW WHY?! BECAUSE I'M STEVEN UNIVERSE, GEM SAVIOR OF THE MOTHER FREAKING GALAXY! I'M STILL A GOOD PERSON! EVERYBODY HAS THEIR FAULTS! NOBODY'S PERFECT!" Steven spiraled, his hands shaking with the knife still in his grasp. His eyes were wide with insanity and his hair was all wild and mangled. "Put the knife down." Connie said flatly. She didn't know what to say. She had never seen this side of her best friend before. Connie fought back the tears as she realized that this was just a shell of the Steven she had meet four years ago. The fun, caring kid she had become friends with... lost. Steven still held the weapon tight in his hands. "Put it down now. Or I'm calling the police." Connie repeated firmly. Suddenly, something in Steven's mind snapped. He clutched the knife even harder as he lowered his head. "Make me." he whispered as he sprinted at Connie, swinging the knife at her. 

     She leaped out of the way before it hit her and fell onto the cold ground. "We did not want to fight you, but you leave us no choice." Pearl said solemnly as she, Garnet, and Amethyst got out their weapons. Connie got up as she tried to stop the gems. "Stop! I can handle this!" she exclaimed. "No Connie. Let us take care of this! We don't want you to get hurt!" Amethyst argued as she thrusted her whip at Steven to tie him down. Steven narrowly missed and lunged toward Amethyst. Her face changed to sadness as Steven stabbed her with the knife, poofing her. Connie just stared as this happened. It felt like everything was moving in slow motion. All she could hear was the loud beating of her heart. She had to do something. Pearl swooped in and grabbed Amethyst before it hit the ground. "Hang in there Amethyst." she whispered before shifting her eyes back to Steven. "Connie NO!" Pearl yelled. Steven had Connie pushed up against the wall with the knife pointed at her throat. 

     Connie tried to hold the knife back and push Steven away. "Steven! Please don't do this!" she cried, her arms growing weak from holding Steven back. "SHUT UP!" he exclaimed. "If I get rid of you, if I get rid of ALL OF YOU, there won't be anymore problems!" Connie felt hot tears run down her cheeks. "Aww, you're gonna cry? Why are you crying?! Nothing bad has ever happened to you! Yet everybody is gonna feel sorry for you for reasons I don't understand! I have felt true pain! YET NOBODY CARES!! YOU DON'T CARE!" Steven rambled on. "I DO CARE! I LOVE YOU! WE ALL DO! EVERYBODY CARES ABOUT YOU! WE JUST WANT TO HELP BUT YOU'RE--" Connie screamed before being cut of by Steven. "I SAID SHUT UP!!" Steven spat.  "IT'S TOO LATE TO SAY THAT! IT'S TOO LATE TO HELP ME! I'M ALREADY DAMAGED, AND THERE'S NOTHING YOU OR ANYBODY CAN DO ABOUT IT!" Connie fell silent. She had no idea he had been hurting so bad this whole time. During this, Garnet and Pearl were trying to pull Steven away from Connie. "LET GO OF ME!" Steven snarled angrily. "He's losing his sanity!" Garnet explained to Pearl. "YOU THINK?!" Pearl exclaimed. "HE'S CRAZY! WE NEED TO MAKE HIM STOP!" Suddenly, Amethyst was reforming. She opened her eyes and looked around to spot Steven. "GET AWAY FROM CONNIE YOU PSYCHO!" Amethyst yelled as she threw her whip at Steven, tying his legs together. "WHAT THE HELL!?" Steven hissed before losing balance and dropping the knife, his head hitting the cold floor hard. Connie collapsed onto her knees as the gems ran over to her. "Are you OK?!" Pearl asked. "I-I'm fine." Connie assured, still in shock of what she had just witnessed. "What's happening to him?! He's gone insane!" Amethyst commented. "What should we do?!" Connie pulled out phone from her pocket. Steven had blacked out from the hard hit, so everybody was safe for now, but Connie knew what she had to do. Tears streamed down her face as she put her phone to her ear.

     "911, what's your emergency?"
