  "You're not funny."
Devin grinned in amusement, laying a hand on his chest. "I'm not funny?"
Karmo glared at him, before returning to sharpening the knife in his hand. He didn't like this job, and Devin made it a whole lot harder with the constant talking.
He ignored the Euran boy. Devin glanced at him a few times. He didn't like that either, but it was better than hearing him crack outdated and annoying jokes. Though, he had to admit, a few of them nearly put a smile on his face. There was a scuffling noise as Devin put down his blade and stood up.
Karmo eyed him warily, watching as he sat down directly in front of him. "You," Devin tapped his nose as he spoke. Karmo flinched. "Just don't know what humour is."
"Of course I know what humour is, you idiot," Karmo scoffed, refusing to meet his eye.
"Someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed," Devin chortled. Karmo seriously felt like choking him. Maybe kick him in the ribs a few times. Clearly, his anger was displayed in his facial expression.
Devin sighed. "You're awfully aggressive today," he mused, reaching over to retrieve his blade again. Karmo had to agree, he was quite grumpy. He didn't reply this time, instead focusing on his job. The sooner they got done, the better. The Redcloaks sure did have a lot of weapons...
Devin suddenly stopped after a few moments, setting his things down again. Instead, he rested his elbows on his knees, leaning forward slightly. Karmo felt a little awkward.
"What are you doing?" Karmo asked, raising a brow. Devin smiled sweetly at him.
"Staring at you until you laugh," he responded simply. That was Devin's annoying smile, the one Dawson had warned him about.
Unfortunately, it was working. Karmo felt the beginning of a smile tug on his lips. This only made Devin's wider.
  "You're smiling."
  "Stop it."
  "But you're smiling."
  "I know."
Karmo shoved down a laugh trying to escape. He felt awkward under Devin's gaze, and the little shit wouldn't stop until he got his way. That was one thing he knew about him; he was persistent. Devin shook slightly in a silent laugh. So this was tough for him too.
His smile began to widen. Why? He had no idea. It could have been the fact that Devin was pausing his activities to try to make him laugh, or it was just the uncomfortable feeling in his stomach. He was definitely leaning more to the second one.
"You're so stubborn," Devin complained, crossing his arms and leaning back a little. Karmo couldn't help but give him an amused look.
"Says you," he replied, kicking the Euran boy's leg lightly. Devin kicked him back, and for a moment there, they played footsies. Finally, Devin gave up, his feet coming to a stop.
Karmo basked in his victory. He only had a few more knives to go, and then he could get out of there. But, Devin wasn't done.
"Do I have to resort to tickling you?"
"You wouldn't be able to get close enough."
"I think Karmo needs a nap."
With that, Karmo tossed aside his things and tackled the other boy to the ground, listening to the surprisingly delightful sound that was Devin's laughter. A few months ago, he would have called it annoying. Now, wrestling with him, he thought differently.
Karmo found himself laughing along. They didn't hear the door open. Someone cleared their throat, and their laughter abruptly stopped, and their movement at almost the same time.
"What are you two doing?" Stead asked, the beginning of an amused smile on his face.
Karmo paused, glancing at Devin, who he realized was trapped under him. He noticed the blush creeping across his cheeks. Turning back to their leader, he replied, "Working."
Stead shook his head, chuckling. "It doesn't look like it."
"Don't you worry, we'll get it done," Karmo reassured the older male. Stead nodded slowly, turning on his heel as he exited the room. As he turned away, he spared them an extra glance.
The door shut, and Karmo immediately looked down at Devin again. Devin stared back at him, cheeks a rosy red. Cute, he thought. Then he immediately silently cursed himself.
But, he still leaned down, pressing a firm kiss to his forehead. Devin startled, and Karmo was afraid that he'd made a mistake. But, he only grinned as Karmo rolled off of him, wordlessly continuing their job.
Devin was silent for the first time in a while, and Karmo was honestly starting to miss his endless chatter.
Finally, he broke the silence. "So," he said, "will you join me on a walk after this?"
Devin nodded. Karmo noticed his grin had never slipped away. "For sure."
Karmo suddenly felt giddy. He happily finished up on the last knife, waiting for Devin to finish too. It didn't take long.
As soon as the two boys had reported back to Stead, they ran off. They walked along the beach, barefoot, letting the waves lap at their feet.
"I hate you," the taller of the two said quietly, elbowing the other lightly.
  "You adore me."

Fun fact: The temporary title for this was "beep beep boop gay fucks" so that's cool. - Dash
