Y/N and her friends eventually left the bar just before closing. They all agreed that it was a wonderful night out and they'd definitely come back Friday night. How could they not?
Unfortunately, Y/N had to go back a little earlier than anticipated. After deciding that a couple of drinks wouldn't hurt, Y/N left the barroom without her phone. Resenting every decision from last night, Y/N trudged back into the empty, albeit open bar and began searching for her phone.
Y/N searched the table they sat at, the booths, the bartender's counter, and the dance floor but to no avail. She was about to ask for help from the bartender until she heard a familiar voice call out to her. It was Dennis!
"Hey, Y/N", the redhead waved at the young woman and approached her confidently. She started wondering if the confident stage facade he put up was just a facade. "You're here a bit early."
Y/N gave him a tired smile- it was all she could muster on account of her slight sleepiness and her missing phone. "Hey, Dennis. Yeah, I'm just looking for something. I forgot my phone here last night. Have you seen it by any chance?"
Dennis furrowed his brows and tried to recall last night. "Maybe. I usually stay after to help close so maybe one of us put it in the lost and found."
Y/N felt a tiny sliver of hope. "Do you think there's a chance that I could check out the lost and found?" She didn't expect much but she loved her phone and didn't really feel like buying a new one.
"Sure, I don't see why not. Just stay here. I'm going to ask the bartender for the key to the closet." Dennis walked off to retrieve the key. Y/N waited patiently and continued looking around for her phone until she heard Dennis coming back. "So, I've got the key. If you'll just follow me', his voice trailed off as he waited for her to follow his lead. "It's pretty far back." He led her down a hallway past the bathrooms and past the supply closet. Finally, after a brief flight upstairs, Dennis found the lost and found closet. He unlocked the creaky old door and let Y/N search for her phone. He stood nearby as she searched.
Not being one for uncomfortable silence, Y/N decided to make some small talk. "So, uh, Dennis...how long have you been working here?" She rummaged through the partially organized stack of musty outerwear. Eventually, she found a big Ziploc bag full of forgotten phones. She prayed her phone was inside.
"Just a few months. I'm just working here for the time being. I have bigger plans." The corner of his lips twitched into a confident grin.
"Big plans, huh?" She muttered as she began sorting through the phones until she found the one she'd been looking for. "Why are you here then? No offense, this place is great but you're pretty talented. I've heard that the Iceberg Lounge has been looking for a performer. I'm not saying you could do better", Y/N smiled as she finally found her phone.
"The Iceberg Lounge?" Dennis stifled a smug smirk. "I would but it's not my really my vibe." Sure, Y/N didn't know who he was but most of Gotham's did. Working for one of the most powerful forces in Gotham, such as the Penguin, seemed like a good idea except that he had hypnotized and consequently, humiliated him. "But I'm flattered you think so', he lied through his gapped teeth. "I'm glad you found your phone. Shall we?"
As they made their way back to the barroom, Y/n did her best to avoid the uncomfortable silence once again. "So, you have a show again tonight, right? What time do you usually start?"
"Well, we have different performers, and entry doesn't start till 8:30pm. If you want to get seats to see yours truly, I'd suggest coming in at like 9:20pm. Otherwise, you'd get stuck at one of the lame booths and you wouldn't get to see me and honestly, who doesn't want to see me?" Dennis grinned as he caught the subtle smile on Y/N's face. They finally made it back but Y/N had to head out.
"Will you come later?", Dennis asked. "You've still got a song request pending, you know." He leaned against the entryway and kept an eye on her as she stepped out.
"I'll definitely be back, Dennis. I'll run some errands, go back home, and I'll get ready for tonight, okay?" She smiled when she remembered the song request that she didn't use from the night before. "Anything from (favorite artist) would be fine."
"(Favorite Artist)? Alright, will do. See you then." Dennis waved her goodbye and watched as she left until she was lost amongst the crowd.
