Falling behind

"You know if you keep picking at your eyelashes your gonna end up picking them all off. Did you have 212 eyelashes on one eye and 92 on the other?" Vertina sighed, Sophie rolled her eyes, but, because deep down she knew she was right, she sat on her hands to stop her from taking more out. There was a soft knock on the door and Sophie knew exactly who it was even before a quiet voice asked if she wanted to come down for dinner, "I'm not hungry Mom, thanks though." Sophie answered trying to keep her voice calm, even though she was starving. She wasn't ready to leave this room, she didn't know if she ever would. "Ok, I'll send some up in case you get hungry, goodnight love you." Edaline said sadly, "Thanks, love you too." Sophie whispered so quietly she wasn't sure if Edaline heard her. "You know if I have to deal with you up here you at least need to let me give you a makeover." Vertina said exhaustingly, "Fine, but nothing too much because I plan on calling everyone on the imparter to check on them." Sophie sighed, she'd been stalling on calling them because she wanted to be put together but the longer she waited the more she fell apart so the sooner she did it the better. The only reason she was agreeing to the makeover was because she was trying to fix her relationship with Vertina. "Wait, did Sophie Foster just agree to a MAKEOVER, okay something really bad must've happened. So, I expect you to tell me every detail of why your so un-Sophie like while we do this." Vertina gasped, widening her eyes for dramatic effect. "Sure, thanks Vertina." Sophie said with a sad smile. "Ok, ok. Enough chit chat let's get to work." Sophie told her everything, with the occasional interruption of Vertina telling Sophie to do this or do that. Sophie and the Black Swan had created a plan when they heard of what the Neverseen was trying to do. It had been going well, until Lady Gisla got a hold of Keefe, Sophie immediately went to help him, but that left Fitz to fight Ruy on his own, but he was doing well and there was no way Sophie was letting the Neverseen take Keefe away from her again. She focused her inflicting onto Keefe's mother, grabbing Keefe and latching the extra Nexus Elwin has her carry around onto him before pushing him into the light with Ro to HavenField telling Ro to make sure he stays there. Sophie rushed over to help Fitz but Biana needed help so she ran over there, then to Marella, then to Tam, getting them all out of there one by one. She didn't need to latch on any Nexus to them because they wouldn't resist like Keefe would. The last person she needed to get out of there was Fitz, but while she was running there Ruy hit him with a force field knocking him unconscious. "NO!" Sophie screamed hitting Ruy with a goblin throwing star before taking off her Nexus and putting it on Fitz before light leaping him. She turned around ready to face the rest of them, they were getting stronger and she didn't want her friends to get hurt, she had to deal with this on her own. "You can stop with the brave face I can feel your panic from here, she had gotten over Sophie's inflicting she observed bitterly. "You know sending your friends over to Haven Field isn't going to protect them we could just go there." Keefe's mother sighed, Sophie let out a cold laugh, "As if I'd be stupid enough to send them there, that's not where they are. I thought you'd be smart enough to know that." Sophie said coldly even though that was exactly where they were, she knew she could could cover up her lie to an empath if she put enough confidence behind her lie. "She's not lying." Lady Gisla said irritated. "Yes she is," a calm voice said from the shadows, "And how would you know?" Ruy asked sarcastically, "Because, I read her mind." the voice said with a hint of a smile in their voice. "You can't read my mind." Sophie said rolling her eyes, "Oh, but I can that's how I know you learned how to lie to an empath from Keefe." the voice responded with a breathy laugh. Sophie was shocked, "Don't worry Sophie we won't hurt them, this was just to show you the powers of our new member, do us a favor and kill your little prisoner. Gethan is no use to us know." Gisla said before leaping away with the rest of the Neverseen. Sophie leaped back home where everyone immediately reeled on her about facing the Neverseen alone, (especially Sandor and Grady) but Sophie just walked to her room, locking the door behind her, and sat in front of the mirror zoning out as soon as she sat down. They could read her mind, she thought over and over. "Well, I um, er, I'm sorry." Vertina stuttered, "You have no reason to be and," Sophie gasped, "I look amazing thank you, I should let you help me more often." Sophie finished. "So I can do it when you go back to school on Monday?" Vertina asked hopefully, "Sure."
