That was the last time I saw Hope. After I'd dropped her home, I'd given her a present: a heart-shaped locket with a picture of us together inside. On the back engraved in small letters were the words 'You hold my heart forever and always'. After I gave her the locket she had cried in my arms and whispered that no one would ever have a love as strong as ours and that no matter what I had to keep living for her. I guess she knew that that night would be the last time we saw each other. Before we said goodbye I told her I loved her once again and she repeated the words to me. But our last words to each other weren't those of love. They were simple words with the promise of another day. The words were 'see you later'.
And I would. See her later. Maybe not now, or soon, but someday.
And when that someday came, I would be ready.
