"That was...heartbreaking!" A raspy voice of an old woman exclaimed as she wipe some tears on her eyes.
He had just finished playing "Kiss the Rain" on her grand piano. It has been six years since he underwent a therapy for his hands which he had been refusing for four years before he met her.
Ever since the accident ten years ago, He had been thinking of ways to just go away...forever. But God probably didn't want him to so He sent Mrs. Santos, his therapist amd psychologist, to his school one day six years ago.
From day one, she noticed how much he had been distancing himself from everyone else. She saw the bitterness in his eyes which he tried to cover up with his jerk-like attitude. He didn't care that much when she talked to him once about seeking for a way to redirect his life. For the record, he didn't want to bother anyone anymore.
But one afternoon in school, she saw him staring at the piano with tears in his eyes. He was already drowning in pain, misery, sorrow...He just didn't know how to handle his emotions anymore.
She was able to convince him that day to undergo some therapy...not only for his injured hand but also for his torn heart and messy mind.
Mrs. Santos, whom he considers as a mother already, pulled him out of that darkest part of his life. So even when he already vowed never to play the piano ever again, she made him do it. He did so when he almost lost her when she had a mild stroke.
"Earth to my son." Her voice snapped him back to reality.
"Sorry. I just remembered how you used to pester me six years ago." he joked and she chuckled.
"That was the hardest pestering I ever did in my life." She joked back. Her smiling eyes still evident even with her wrinkles due to her age.
"Anyway, how's work?"
"The Academy's doing great. I have no problem in handling our trainees. As for the Agency, Mark's doing most of the work so I can't really complain about anything," he replied.
"And what about your musical projects?" She stared at the window when a car passed by. She loves observing the outside world.
"I'll be meeting the directors and other staff tomorrow for the film that we'll be working on." He informed and she nodded. When she looked back at him, she seemed to be waiting for more news. He knew what it was so he gave her an "unbelievable look."
"Mom," That's how he came to call her since six years ago.
"Don't tell me you believe the news." She smiled meaningfully.
"What should I believe then? Jake, you're already 27, a successful young man managing a talent academy and agency and at the same time working as a music director in the most renowned broadcasting station. You should really give your heart some time to rediscover." She stated in a matter-of-fact tone.
"Uhuh! But I have you. Dad's already gone and you're the only family I have. I'm so contented right now. So please stop pairing me with Lia."
Yes. Lia Buencamino, a very popular model who happened to work with him when he directed his artist's music video. They became friends but he never really felt anything more than friendship for her.
"Fine. Fine. Whatever you say," she still sounded unconvinced and he just shook his head as they laughed together.
That's when his phone rang. Work.
"Jake Wang, speaking."
