Things in Manhattan had calmed after the Chitauri had fallen in defeat and things were being pit back to normal, the citizens thankful for the Avengers jumping in to save them.
So far, Kalli haven't heard anything from The Clave, but she remained on high alert. She knew that this was one of their games and she wasn't falling for it this time. She had arrested many rouge Shadowhunters and brought them back to Idris. Every time that happened, they promised that she would be let go and acquitted of her crimes against her people, however, it was never to be. Her name and the reputation surrounding it would never truly leave her, no matter how deep in the cracks of her mind she burried it.
As Kalli stood by the floor to ceiling window of Stark Tower, watching over the Mundanes who busied themselves with their usual morning rituals, Thor entered the room. The Norse God felt back for the Nephilim woman and he knew he shouldn't get involved with her problems, however, they were building an alliance, right? To build an alliance, he needed to help, dispite knowing his father would be against it.
"You're not who they say you are," Thor boomed as he stood beside Kalli.
"Non desistas, non exieris," Kalli replied, her gaze not leaving the scene below. Some days, she wished she was a Mundane. Just a plain and simple Mundane who didn't have the weight of the world on her shoulders, who didn't have such high expectations to be expected of her. "Non exieris."
Thor glanced at her confused. "I'm afraid I don't speak the language of your people."
Kalli chuckled, meeting Thor's eyes. "It means: never give up, never surrender. That is the motto every Nephilim infant is taught to live by."
"Nothing from The Clave?"
"Not a word."
Silence embraced them for a while. It was a nice, comforting silence which was something Kalli hadn't experienced in a long time. Thor noticed how calm she was but he could feel the fear radiating off her, making him jump to his question. "Come with me."
Kalli turned to face him, folding her arms over her chest. "Go with you where?" Kalli questioned, meeting his stormy blue eyes.
Thor returned the gaze, meeting Kalli's warm and calming brown eyes, a glimpse of hope in his own eyes. "To Asgard."
Kalli took a step back, disbelief taking over her features and any ounce of hope disappearing from the God of Thunder. "No," Kalli said, shaking her head. "I can't, your father-"
"He won't say anything."
"-he'll send me back here, Thor. The War will still be fresh in his memory. It's much different for us because we weren't there when the war between Asgard and Idris happened."
"If they come looking for you," Thor said, hoping he could convince her, "on Asgard, they won't be able to find you. And my Mother, Frigga, she'll be able to help you with your powers and Lady Sif could use a sparing partner and you would fit the roll perfectly. More importantly, we will show that my people and your people aren't all that different."
Kalli took a sudden interest in her shoes, the footwear becoming more interesting that having to choose between living the life she knew, competing against having a clean slate to start off with in Asgard. As tempting as Idris was, Asgard seemed much more tempting. "Ok," Kalli nodded, meeting Thor's gaze as his face lit up. "I'll go with you."
***
"You're going to do what!?"
Kalli rushed around her room in her's and Chris's apartment, packing a black duffle bag of Shadowhunter gear and weapons. She had already told Natasha and Clint her plans to move to Asgard and as much as they would miss her, they agreed that this was something she needed to do. Chris, however, he had a very different view on things.
Kalli folded a pair of black, leather leggings, a part of her Shadowhunter hunting gear, and shoved it in the bag. "I'm moving to Asgard," she sighed as she decided which of her black tops Kalli would take with her. "How many more times do I need to tell you?"
Chris groaned and sat on her bed. "Why are you going? What's wrong with staying here?"
Kalli shook here head. "I can't stay anymore. The Clave are tracking me down, I can feel it, and if I go with Thor, they can't get to me. Nephilim tracking can't pass through realms so, I'd be free and safe."
"Okay, what about Odin? Wasn't he the dude who called for war on Idris?"
"All the more reason to go." As Kalli spoke, after a couple of hours thinking things over, she felt more confident in her decision. The way Thor highly spoke of his home, the idea of going became more and more appealing. "It's one step closer to unifying the Asgardians and the Nephilim."
"What if Odin banishes you?" Chris bombarded. "Have you come up with a solution for that one?"
Kalli nodded. "Thor said he'd deal with his father."
Chris sighed and ran both hands over his face while letting out a sigh. Kalli stopped what she was doing and came to join him. "You're really doing this, aren't you?"
Kalli sighed and played with the ends of her sleeve. She nodded. "I am," she said, meeting her best friend's eyes, "but I'll be coming back when this chaos blows over with The Clave. The Angels can't pass over the Asgard without permission because of the war, meaning, The Clave can't touch me with a barge pole."
"I'm not stopping you," Chris said. Deep down, he knew Kalli needed this. This was Kalli's chance for freedom and not feeling like she couldn't breathe due to The Clave stalking her every move. She can go and, with the help of Thor, bring the two together. "Just promise me you'll be safe out there, okay? I'd like me best friend back in one piece, not several."
Kalli chuckled and shook her head. She felt relieved that Chris okay with her leaving like this, but she desperately craved the freedom that Asgard held that was her's for the taking. And she was going to gasp onto that with both hands, never letting go. "Don't worry, I'll murder Thor if anything happens," Kalli smirked, making Chris chuckled. "You may not be my blood, but you're still my brother and always will be, all the way until the sun sets on our time."
Chris smiled and wrapped his arm around Kalli's shoulders - the closest thing to a hug anyone was gonna get from Kalli.
Kalli and Chris joined the other Avengers in Central Park, where Thor was biding his farewells to the team. Loki had been handcuffed and muzzled, galring at those who assisted his brother in his capture.
Kalli stood and watched as peace settled over everyone, a small smile on her face as Clint rambled on about Kalli being safe while on Asgard.
"Khloe Morgenstern!" Kalli turned around and smirked as she came face to face with Matilda Aldertree, the woman who had been authorised to bring Kalli back to Idris. "By order-"
"Alright, I get it," Kalli groaned, pinching the bridge of her nose as Bruce was handling the Tesseract behind her. "I'm being placed placed under arrest, I know. Every time I save the Mundane World and supposedly "restore honour", you come along and arrest my ass!" Kalli exclaimed, making everyone around her widen their eyes at her outburst, even Loki was surprised. "But I'll tell ya what I'll do," Kalli said as she rummaged through her bag to find a throwing knife, while other Clave officials stood at Matilda's side. She pulled the knife chucked it carelessly to Matilda. "Try and track me now."
Kalli walked backwards towards Thor. Thor locked his arm around Kalli's waist, his other hand extended the long glass tube that held the Tesseract inside. Reluctantly, Loki took the other end in his grasp And the three of them disappeared through an energy beam.
Matilda stared in shock, still holding Kalli's knife. "That smart, crazy bitch has done it again," she chuckled, amused.
Kalli was now free.
