The Underwaters

Evangeline's POV

Today it was going to rain I could sense it, the smell had changed, the air seemed moister and the sky, ahh, the beautiful sky it was losing its colour, turning grey; don't get me wrong I love the blue sky but after the rain lets up it's somehow even bluer. I decided to go up to the surface and have the raindrops soak me and wash all the negativity as I danced on the surface of the river, though I would have to plan how to escape since I was one of the Underwaters. An Underwater is a race of creatures living in water bodies, however, this river holds the main family branch and I am one of them, yup I am the second princess, Evangeline Aquaregia of the Underwaters. The thing is even though I live in the water I never get soaked so that's why I wanna go out and let the raindrops soak me.

Although I am not like my family, everyone says that I am different because I like going to the surface and seeing the humans who pass by the river or cross the bridge and also experience their lifestyle and the climate; since I already escaped last year during the same season there are guards posted near my room and the castle gates but I have a perfect plan and that plan I put into action tonight. "Eva, you do not plan to escape again, do you?" asked a deep and demanding voice, I turned around slowly and respectfully as I would recognize this voice anywhere, it was my father, the king of the Underwaters, "no father, but why can't I go out there?" I said with uncertainty "Hmm, come here" the king said. He made me sit beside him and started explaining "I know you want to go out there but above the surface, the world is terrible, horrible and cruel, they won't accept us, I know..." he said with a sad look on his face and I would know that look anytime it was mother, she died when I was 4 years old. I asked him "Is it mother? I know that she was killed by humans but what if they changed? What if..." Before I could finish my father stood up and looked furiously at me "NO MEANS NO, THEY WON'T CHANGE, I KNOW, THEY TOOK YOUR MOTHER AWAY FROM ME, I can't lose you too. You are soon going to be married and become queen" those last words shocked me and made myself ask why me? why not sister? I managed to ask him these questions and all he said was "I want you to be the queen because you remind me of her" he said cupping my face with his hands. But I don't want to get married I'm just 20, I want to explore more... As I said those words I got a stinging feeling on my left cheek, I looked at my father with tears almost starting then he stormed off.

Author's POV

Evangeline was in her room on her bed balling her eyes out, she was frustrated and confused asking herself why. what did I do to deserve this?  Her door creaked open and a soft voice was heard "Hey Eva, how are you holding up? I know I should have been the next queen but you know how I can't rule others or order them, I belong to the battlefield so I am practically married to the battlefield that is, huh" she said chuckling "Anyways I wish you all the best and I look forward to serving you" she left after saying that. The clock struck 12 and Evangeline had already started swimming towards the surface reaching the light of the moon once she did she got on land and started running it was not like people could see her because she had put up her concealing spell only animals could see her. 

Evangeline's POV

I was running and running I don't know where I just kept running until I came to a stop near a hospital building, I was about to leave but a big dog started barking at me and chasing me I decided to go inside and started running up the stairs until I was far enough. Suddenly I caught a wif of something really good and I was really hungry so I decided to go inside the room and check it out, but as I was about to enter I saw a boy covered in bandages, he got up all of a sudden so I decided to run back to the river, it was quite a tiring night I thought. I reached the bridge and as I was about to jump into the river I saw the boy, HE FOLLOWED ME HERE, OH NO! I thought to myself managing not to make a noise, he was reaching out his hand and coming towards me but before he could catch me I jumped and knew he couldn't possibly follow me into the castle town cuz he is human but I saw a faint light following me and that faint light passed through the barrier, HOW!? something is wrong.
