- Justin's POV -

I've been hanging out with Irene a lot lately. Dana and I haven't spoken since the day she left and I started to believe Irene. She probably had started seeing another guy. I've been thinking that this whole week and I tried my best to hide any jealousy I let show. The thought of Dana being with anyone except me made me cringe.

"This one or this one?" Irene had a solid black halter top in one hand and a light pink floral crop top in the other. She had begged me to come out to the mall with her and as much as I wanted to deny the invite, I had nothing else to do.

"Dude, it's freezing outside."

"I know," she pouts. "but they're really cute and I don't want to leave them. They might not be here next week."

I quietly scoff. Irene is one of those people who spends money just because they know they have it. There's no reason for her to be buying those shirts in this weather.

"So, which one?" she grins obviously ignoring my response.

So I shrug.

"Fine, I'll just get both."

We walk to the register and wait in line. To avoid a possible conversation between the two of us, I pull out my phone and check my messages. I feel a little disappointed not seeing Dana's name. Just mom, Ryan, Scott, dad and---

Scott.

Shit I forgot all about Scott. Being wrapped up in all of this drama with Dana, I haven't spoken to him in three weeks. That wasn't good.

"I'm stepping out for a minute." I tell Irene.

"What? why?" she frowns.

"I have to make a phone call."

"Can't you wait until you get home?"

"No, it's important."

She rolls her eyes. "Fine, whatever. Even though I think you should wait until you're home where it's quiet but, it's your decision not mine."

She was right and I hated that.

"Is it her again?"

"What?"

"Dana." she looks at me blankly. "Is it Dana?"

Just hearing her name said out loud sent chills throughout my body. "No."

"Good because if we are gonna be together we--"

"We? Together?" I frown. "Look, Irene I hope you're not getting the wrong impression but there's no we. There never has been."

There was confusion and hurt in her eyes. She opens her mouth to say something but notices that she's next in line. I watch her nearly throw her shirts at the cashier and I'm guessing the cashier notices because she frowns.

I honestly hope Irene didn't think we were a couple. Yeah, she was pretty but I already had my eyes set on Dana and that's the way I wanted it to be for a long time. If Irene thought that that was going to change in these past two weeks then she was wrong.

When she's finished paying for her tops she rushes out of the store and I follow behind her.

"Where are we going now?" I ask.

"I don't know." she's walking super fast and it's almost impossible to keep up with her.

I lightly grab her wrist and stop her. "I'm sorry okay?"

She finally stops and crosses her arms.

"I like you but not in that way. You're a great friend."
