"So how are you liking school?" Mark was asking me. After class we'd decided to go to Annabel's Cafe, a coffee house not to far from the campus. I've got to admit, they serve the best hot chocolate. To be honest I don't even know why we had decided to go there. It was at least eighty degrees outside. Good thing they sold cold beverages because I would've passed on anything less than cold.

"School is good." I nod my head, sip my iced tea and enjoy the air conditioning that was keeping the place cool. Everyone else seemed to be enjoying it too. Conversations were kept to a minimum of about ten words. The cool air was way too important to talk through.

"So are you from Cali?" Mark seriously had to be the only one in the cafe drinking green tea. What the hell was wrong with this guy? He's twirling his spoon around in his cup letting steam float from it slowly, while looking into my eyes.

"Yup."

"Never seen you around." He brings his cup to his face looking a bit confused.

"I don't get out much." I answered truthfully. I'm always in the house on twitter or writing songs. If not that, I'm at Ryan's doing the same thing. I guess you could say that I'm not a people's person.

"That's why." He's nodding. "Can I ask you a more personal question?"

I paused. "Um, sure?"

Mark placed his cup on the table and sat up straight in his seat. "Um," he starts, shaking his bangs out of his eyes. "Are you like...single? I mean, are you taken?" He shuts his eyes and opens them slowly. "Do you have a boyfriend?"

I tried not to laugh. Mark was completely red right now. Why was he so embarrassed about asking me a question like that? It wasn't like he asked about my bra size or if I was on my period or something.

"No." I bit my lip to conceal my laugh.

"I knew it. You're too pretty to be single. Well can we at least be friends?" he looked at his tea in disgust as if he'd lost his appetite.

"I meant I don't have a boyfriend Mark." I answered.

Mark's while face lit up and I could see he was trying not to smile. "Seriously?"

I nodded. I was single for one of two reasons. For one, I wasn't really looking for a boyfriend. Music has always been my best interest. I guess guys were out of the picture at the time. Two, no one was interested in me like that. Except maybe Mark. Mark seemed to genuinely like me.

"Well, do you mind if we started hanging out more?" he looked up at me from his cup.

I gave him a half smile. "Sure." I didn't mind him asking me to hangout. Mark was a decent looking guy. He wasn't your usual over the top college hottie but, he was cute. He didn't seem like one of those guys who just wanted to get in your pants either.

"Cool." he checks his phone. "Shoot. I have another class right now. You mind if I go?" Mark gets up from the table and grabs his bag. I too get up and grab my binder.

"Go ahead. I want to meet up with my best friend before my next class anyway." I say.

Mark heads for the door and then stops as if he'd forgotten something. He turned to me. "Can I have your number? I mean if you don't mind because if you do then it's okay. I just thought maybe we could talk later and--"

"I'll give you my number Mark." I giggle. He's all red again. Why was it so difficult for him to talk to me? Walking toward him I take his phone and put my number in it. He does the same with mine.

"I guess you can text me later." I suggest.

Mark smiled showing his braces. "Okay."

I walk back to the campus and head to my dorm. Maybe I could relax before English class. When I swipe in my room Beverly's sitting on her bed with her friend Lisa. They're laughing ridiculously loud, they don't even know I walked in. It took me to throw my binder on my bed for them to acknowledge me.
