28. HOSPITAL

( Akshat's P.O.V )

I woke up with a throbbing pain at the back of my head, I groaned irritated and shoved my face furthur in the pillow only to clench my teeth as the pain momentarily intensified.
I sighed and tried to open my eyes,
My vision got blurry & a damp smell of medicine hit my nose.
A slow faded beep echoed from my right,
I blinked rapidly and tried to get my vision clearer,

The first thing I noticed when a clearer view came in front of me was bare light walls,
I glanced around me in confusion,
My right hand was hooked up through a syringe to a bottle,
Realisation dawned on me as I took in the whole scene in front of me,
I was lying on a hospital bed hooked up with wires,
My heart beat increased & my breathing became ragged.

Whole memory of past rushed through my mind,

College,
Message,
Forest clearing,
Kidnappers,
Gun,
Shot,

.

Guddan

"Guddan" I shot out of the bed as soon as the words left my mouth,
I swayed in dizziness and gripped the Door to steady myself, & ran outside in the corridor ignoring the calls of my name behind me.

I was about to round the reception when a familiar silhouette caught my eyes,
I focused with squinted eyes and saw Rehaan sitting on an empty chair all alone with his face in hands and eyes closed,

He look tired & upset.

I stumbled near him & caught his shoulder,
Rehaan jumped in fright and moved away from me, But as his gaze landed on me he hugged me completely knocking out the oxygen from my lungs.

"Akshat.!! Oh God,we were so worried about you,
Are you ok.? "

I broke free from Rehaan and gave him a small nod,

" I'm fine, Rehaan where's Guddan "
I didn't failed to notice as Rehaan's relieved expression morphed into that of sadness,

" Umm, actually Akshat, Look you are not fully recovered, I think you should get some rest "

He was clearly trying to change the subject and was evidently failing.
I gave him a threatening glare and shook off his grip from my arm.

" I asked you - "

"Akshat "

Before I could finish my question , Mom caught my hand and turned me facing her, she checked me out with teary eyes and placed her palm on my shoulder.

" Thanks to Lord Krishna, you are alright, I was so worried sick "

I noticed Dad catching up to us in slow strides, but something about him was off, He was not in his strict business glory, instead his hair were disheaveled and just a good look & anyone can tell he hasn't slept in days.
My heart clenched as my throat went dry with painful emotions.

I moved my gaze away from his face only to caught Aanya's almost same state,
Her eyes were swollen and puffy & she was looking devastated.

I sucked in deep breathe and stood in front of Aanya.

" Where's Guddan.? "
A strange expression passed across her face which she tried to hide miserably, but kept her mouth shut.

I turned towards Mom & Dad and repeated the same question but failed to extract any answer,
A raw wave of anger multiplied inside me, my mind felt like it would explode any moment.
I clenched my jaw & hissed sharply,

" Where's is Guddan, Rehaan.? Aanya.?  Mom,?  Dad.? "

No one answered me, instead avoided my stare,
It was Rehaan who spoke first,

" Akshat, I think you should get some rest, we will talk about this later -"

" I ASKED WHERE THE HECK IS GUDDAN, WHAT HAPPENED TO HER. I SWEAR I'LL TEAR THIS DAMN HOSPITAL APART, JUST TELL ME WHERE IS SHE "

I was shaking in fuming anger, I noticed from the corner of my eyes, few staffs, nurses gathered there but no one gained enough courage to near me.

Aanya's small voice reached my ears,

" She is in Operation Theatre "

Whole anger faded away inside me and got replaced by shattered emotions and sadness,
I stared at her dumbfounded while she continued,

" You were out for 2 days, you passed out in the clearing after Guddan was shot,
Help arrived but there was so much blood already lost,
Neither she was in a good state, nor you were conscious,
We - "

Aanya's voice clogged down with unshed tears, she composed herself while Rehaan held her by shoulders,

" We were so afraid Akshat,
No one knew what happened with you, you were not responding to anything,
Guddan's condition was getting worse by each passing minute,
She was kept in ICU till today,
This morning Head Neuro surgeon informed us about her situation,
They said there's so less possibility for her survival but they said there might be something they can do after this surgery,

No one found any other option, so we all agreed,
Right now she is inside OT,

Now everything is on them - "

Her words cut down as she turned her face opposite to me in Rehaan's embrace.

Whole world spinned around me as a wave of dizziness passed through me,
I slided down the wall, numb,
My body felt like crushing under some invisible strong force,

I failed to hold myself for any longer and broke down in an uncontrollable fit of tears,
Mom hugged me tightly and tried to soothe me while Dad sat beside me and put a comforting hand on the back of my head,

" Nothing will happen to her, I'll line up the best doctors in this hospital,
She will be alright,
I won't let anything happen to her "

The clicking sound of a door opening resonated throughout the hallway as my ears perked up to the vibration,
I peeked, breaking Mom's Embrace and found The Doctor Staring down at me with remorseful eyes,

I stood up hurriedly and caught his hand,

" Is she alright,
Is my Guddan alright "

He caught my stare momentarily before moving his gaze to Dad.

" She got shot in head,
We took out the bullet but there was too much pressure inside the skull,
In fact, we did craniectomy too but her Reticular Activating system is damaged.

I'm really sorry, we tried our best but - "

"But what.? " Something about Doctor's voice told me that nothing is alright,
I held my breath & waited for him to continue,
Little did I knew that his response will shatter my whole world in pieces,

" I'm sorry but She is in Coma "
