I walk inside pushing my way through a crowd of people scanning for Audrey. All I can see is girls dressed in clothes that show off a little too much, and guys who are trying to seduce the girls to go upstairs and get a room with him.

I step in the kitchen and see rows of alcoholic beverages and a mountain of red solo cups. And sure enough behind them is Audrey. I walk towards her and say, “Where have you been?”

“Calm down. I just went to get a drink and by the way Justin was looking at you I realized that it was probably okay to take me sweet time.” She slurs sounding aggravated.

“Well your right about that, but you shouldn’t have left me.” I fill her in on what just happened about how Justin wanted me back and how tall, dark, and handsome decided to swoop in and save the day, then just leave.

Audrey lets out a sigh. “I’m sorry. How was I supposed to know he would go all crazy on you?”

“Its fine I just want to know who that was.” Then I remember the hand on my shoulder at the beginning of the party. I lean up against the counter for support. How did he disappear like? I turn to Audrey, “Will you help me look for that guy? He’s wearing a white t shirt and dark jeans with black hair.”

“Okay I’ll take the downstairs living room if you take outside.” She grabs her cup, and begins to shoo me away.

“Alright fine. Just as soon as you find him send me a text.” I say. I then walk back outside. I look over to where I left Justin on the ground and he is no longer there. So that probably means that he is looking for him too. I need to find him first. I look out at the yard and see beer cans littered across the yard. I walk around the porch and see guys leaning into girls standing against the house. I continue walking when I see him.

He’s walking away from the house towards my car. I race after him and then he stops and turns to face me. I look at him and he is gorgeous. I forget to speak, all I can think about is him. I clear my throat hoping to get my ability to speak back. “Hey thanks for helping me with Justin,” I say, “He’s my ex and he was drunk.” Stupid I think. Why would he need to know that Justin was my ex?

He takes a step toward me and then I’m suddenly aware of the space in between us. A foot at most. I didn’t realize I was holding my breath so I take a deep breath. He takes another step and I can’t move it’s like my legs have just stopped working. My legs have betrayed me. Why is this guy doing this to me?

It probably has to with the fact that he is a god standing before me. God he is gorgeous. His arms are toned, making his shirt sleeves tight. It’s like my mouth is watering he is so handsome. Now he is only a few inches from my face. I feel my cheeks heat with a blush. He lowers his head down and whispers in my ear, “It was my pleasure.” I can feel his breath tickling my ear, and I look up to meet his eyes.

“What’s your name? I haven’t seen you at one of these parties or at school.” I say scattering for words.

“My name is Cole, but more importantly what’s yours? And I’m here because I heard about the party from a friend.” He says.
Dammit my cheeks must look like a tomato. “Well I’m Clair. So if you’re here for the party then why are you leaving?”

“Because this party isn’t fun like I thought it would be. The only highlight was meeting you.” He says with a cocky grin. His eyes are almost memorizing, and they are staring a whole right through me.

I smile back. Taking the smile as cue he puts his hand up to my face. His hand is warm and rough. I feel like I could melt underneath him. I start to turn my head the other way when his hand is there stopping me. “Take a walk with me.” He says.

I consider it for a second then realize I can’t leave because Audrey needs a ride home. “I-I can’t.” I stutter, “I’m my friends ride.”

“We won’t be gone long just a quick walk along that path.”

I take in my surroundings and realize there is a small gravel path to my right leading to a barn in the field. I can’t go with him. What am I thinking, he could be a serial killer. But if he was a serial killer then he probably wouldn’t have saved me from Justin. But what if that’s his plan to lure me in. I can’t go. I open my mouth to speak, but he quiets me with his voice.

“You’ll be safe with me I promise.” He says sensing my dilemma. He reaches out his hand and I take it entwining my fingers into his, as I think why am I doing this?
